Less than 2% of high school athletes will get a college scholarship (and even less will go pro) but the entire youth sports complex is designed around spending money and breaking down physically to achieve a goal that 98% of athletes won’t achieve. Keep sports competitive & fun.

One of the most unfortunate effects I have noticed from the Information Age is a severe lack of empathy. Instead of breaking up with a girlfriend or boyfriend face-to-face, kids are sending texts. Instead of working out problems face-to-face, they are cyberbullying. I can’t help but think that the increase in screen time, coupled with the decrease in face time, has severely atrophied these kids’ emotional muscle.

This story is a great example of how a cohesive, inviting culture can change the way people perceive you. Maybe you’re in a school, business, or organization. Think about how you greet people… Do they feel welcomed? Whether it’s people visiting or those in your building, everyone wants to feel welcomed  and included. Is this something you could add to your culture? Read the excerpt from the book: bit.ly/tfthexcerpt-no… And if this message resonates, Tales from the Hardwood is full of stories just like this. Stop Letting Youth Sports Control Your Sunday In this powerful clip from Will Cain Country, David Pollack discusses the difficult choices parents face in the world of high-level youth sports. Pollack recounts telling a national travel ball coach that his family would not compromise on church, even if it meant his daughter lost playing time. He warns parents against the "busy, busy, busy" trap of the world and explains why it is essential to demonstrate to your children that faith always comes before the game.

Let’s be intentional with our words. Be the one who builds others up. Tell people you love them. Tell people you’re proud of them. Never waste an unspoken blessing.

I had heard the word abracadabra my whole life, but I never knew the meaning behind it: with my words, I create. When I learned that, it stuck with me. The words we use every day help shape the culture around us, the energy in the room, and the direction we’re going. That idea became the inspiration for my newest presentation, Abracadabra! Yesterday I recorded a solo podcast sharing the story behind the talk and a few of the phrases I explore in the session. Check out the full episode on YouTube ➡️ bit.ly/andrewmarottay… If you’re planning a leadership event, I’d love to bring this conversation to your school, business, or organization. Let’s connect! #survivethrive #leadership #growthmindset

Surround yourself with people who are life giving and pointing you toward what’s good. That doesn’t mean avoiding negative people altogether, but it does mean being wise about proximity. Love everyone. Walk with some a little closer than others.

Still more evidence that EdTech harmed American education: Across states, the year that the state imposed mandates requiring computers/tablets, that's the year that test scores stopped rising and in most cases started falling. What is the Cost of Leadership? It costs $0 to say “hello.” It costs $0 to pick up trash It costs $0 to say “please.” It costs $0 to be kind It costs $0 to say “thank you.” It costs $0 to encourage others It costs $0 to smile Lead by Example. It costs nothing.
