Criterion is def doing some of that work, the Hilton Als essay on Jo Jo Dancer (another difficult find before now) is typical of him sublime work, and important to reclaiming long overdue recognition for a incredible film by an incredible black artist..criterion.com/current/posts/…

There were so many black films on my list flat out unavailable, I eventually gave up before I was truly finished it was deeply dispiriting.

I have been able to substantially increase my intake of knowledge from books by switching to Audible and listening at 1.5x speed. I now average about 30-40 books a year. Main driver, you can listen while driving, cooking, getting ready for work, walking, etc… it turn unproductive (mindless tasks) into time well spent absorbing knowledge. 🍻

People who read a ton, HOW? I feel like I read a good amount but still cannot comprehend reading 30+ books a year. Do you read for hours at a time VS me knocking out 20-30 minutes before bed or in the am? Teach me.

@CountVolpe Many moons ago I recall Tarantino saying (paraphrasing) if you get a few cinema masterpieces a year, do you have the right to expect more than that? There’s great films all the time. Sometimes the best movies come out in the most meh years.

Even with the strikes, Red Rooms, The Beast, Sing Sing, I Saw the TV Glow, Conclave, plus the obvious ones, idk if it’s as good as last year but this has been a Good Year For Movies

I feel like some of u are not watching the movies that are actually good
