I did a thing. Today is my last day as a full-time employee. After working as a principal designer for large corporations, I left my six-figure salary job to start my skincare brand. It's a passion project that started almost two years ago, using my evenings and weekends studying and researching everything I could find about cosmetics formulation and skin chemistry. My journey started with a personal motivation: I wanted to help my mum manage her psoriasis. I explored various options to create products that didn't contain harsh ingredients, fragrances, or preservatives that could worsen her flare-ups. Oh, and it all started in my kitchen: mixing over 50 formulations, performing lab tests, damaging the skin on my face more than once (learning the hard way, literally), looking through thousands of ingredients, and begging manufacturers to let me try their actives free of charge. As I've been self-funding this project from the start, I put all the money towards the formula, leaving nothing else for the website, packaging and social media marketing, so I've had to do all of that by myself. I've recorded a brief video with the help of a friend to tell my story to the world.

Made more progress on my Juliette Sans font, I can use it in Figma but still some issues left with characters pairing and kerning.

I am working on a new branch of @moumoujus exploring colour cosmetics / makeup as it's another sector that's really fascinating. I have the visuals in my head and I am slowly designing them from scratch. I am designing a new font now that matches what I have in mind for the look and feel of the packaging and branding. What can I improve?

I want to share this with you people. I just lost my fiancée during childbirth. I miss her a lot of I love her with all my heart. I'm devastated and crying all the time. But I'll find the strength to raise our children the way she wanted to. I have a lot of support from family and friends.

I know a number of British people who lived 1 to 2 years in Italy and then came back. The constant is that they have young children. Whatever they tell you, if you ask them about the Italian school system, they will eventually admit that it was, if not the main one, one of the critical items for them. Italian primary school is much harder than the British one. An awful lot of Italian parents cope with that by literally abandoning their children to their own devices. Most take a more proactive stance, so they either start tutoring their children themselves (a couple of hours a day per child starting in year 1) or pay for tutors to do it in their stead. In primary school, British kids have homework once per week. Italian kids have homework once per day, doubled over the weekend. If you visit Italian homes in the afternoon and they have children, it is pretty standard to see the kids sitting at the main table with books and notebooks spread all around, with a parent or a tutor sitting with them for the whole session. Also, the amount of books they have to carry to school every day is borderline unbelievable. You would think they are training them to carry legionary backpacks. For people accustomed to the gentle British primary schooling, the Italian system feels borderline insane. Note also that it has massively eased up: in my childhood, we had to memorise a long poem every weekend (which back then meant Sunday, as Saturday was school day). h/t @GroovySciFi

M&S Food is without doubt the best thing about the UK right now. But the way you’re forking out £40 for buying 6 items is a bit of a madness. No one does better bakery items, desserts or fruit&veg than M&S. The eggs are on another level as well.

Day 1 of forcing my ecom skincare brand to $100k revenue $0/$100,000 if you were starting from zero marketing spend, where would you deploy your first dollars? Currently we have spent $0 on marketing - pure organic.

@soundslikecanoe @codyplof This is exactly what I’ve done with my beauty brand’s website. I’ve moved it fully to headless and I just use plugins that have an API available. It’s so much more flexible than trying to work around liquid layouts.

Why don’t you just build your landers outside of Shopify? Like in Vercel or Lovable? I know there are downsides but I’m curious which ones are the biggest detractors for you. I’m finalizing my “one click” lander tech stack this week, that makes on brand high quality landers in lovable in a few minutes.

The design step of Vibe Coding feels so backwards. The Figma MCP is trash, Paper is cool but not perfect. It's much easier to just design in HTML and then patch in Shopify but there should be a better way. I am hoping there is a good solve soon.

@_ccarts @euronationalizt @JohnIngarra Oh that’s so cool! I tend to go back a few times a year now but summer time is always the best (although chaotic). I am planning on renovating a derelict house towards the old part of town so I can spend a bit more time there.

@fffabs @euronationalizt @JohnIngarra Ended up in Milazzo last summer visiting a friend who was there tracing some of his mother’s childhood steps. We ended up at Santuario di Sant'Antonio, where she used to walk from twice a year from Furnari. Had some great food on via Riccardo D’amico. Brilliant town.

It’s getting harder to find a gem in europe where: - No tourist crowds - Cheap wine - Kind locals - Authenticity - Kids growing up there - Swimmable beaches - No English menu

What is the most "famous" project you've worked on? Mine has to be the F1 Challenge with @HansZimmer for RedBull Austria. Ended up winning a Best In Show in LA for the RB Hackathon.

@euronationalizt @JohnIngarra As a Sicilian myself I have to agree. There are still so many unspoiled areas you can visit across Sicily. I come from Milazzo which can be really busy in summer due to tourist going to the aeolian islands but the rest of the year is pretty chill.
