I did a thing. Today is my last day as a full-time employee. After working as a principal designer for large corporations, I left my six-figure salary job to start my skincare brand. It's a passion project that started almost two years ago, using my evenings and weekends studying and researching everything I could find about cosmetics formulation and skin chemistry. My journey started with a personal motivation: I wanted to help my mum manage her psoriasis. I explored various options to create products that didn't contain harsh ingredients, fragrances, or preservatives that could worsen her flare-ups. Oh, and it all started in my kitchen: mixing over 50 formulations, performing lab tests, damaging the skin on my face more than once (learning the hard way, literally), looking through thousands of ingredients, and begging manufacturers to let me try their actives free of charge. As I've been self-funding this project from the start, I put all the money towards the formula, leaving nothing else for the website, packaging and social media marketing, so I've had to do all of that by myself. I've recorded a brief video with the help of a friend to tell my story to the world.

@AdmireTheWeb @posthog Yeah I trialled Hotjar too before too, but didn’t like it at all, too corporate and clunky, post hog is great so far!

@fffabs @posthog Not used it since the hot jar days and the performance hit wasn’t worth it over what I got out of it. Might try again. Too focused on getting users to the site rather than optimising the site for the users.

@AdmireTheWeb @posthog How your visitors behave. It helps you understand if there are any parts of the site that get missed. So for example in the product page photo I posted, I can see users tried to click or swipe it, which wouldn’t do anything because I don’t have that feature yet.

@samrpassmore @posthog Oh never used Clarity. I tried Hotjar for a while but it felt very clunky.

This is the town where I grew up and left 22 years ago to move to the UK. I’m 40 now and I wouldn’t hesitate to move back someday to live the southern European lifestyle.

@fffabs I feel that way about Colorado, New Mexico, and Japan. Mom and sister are in CO. Dad, Uncle, and Aunt are in NM. My heart is in Japan. Where is it? I'd love to surprise my wife with a little bit of something like that. I'm heading to Italy in September with her.

@whale I don’t know if I will, I go there 2/3 times a year but the bureaucracy drives me insane. Dealing with government offices to renew my ID card or something like that is just painful.

@Markbuschn It’s Sicily! Yeah exactly, not the best place for opportunities unless you are in the tourism industry. But working remotely I don’t even need to be in the UK anymore.
