I did a thing. Today is my last day as a full-time employee. After working as a principal designer for large corporations, I left my six-figure salary job to start my skincare brand. It's a passion project that started almost two years ago, using my evenings and weekends studying and researching everything I could find about cosmetics formulation and skin chemistry. My journey started with a personal motivation: I wanted to help my mum manage her psoriasis. I explored various options to create products that didn't contain harsh ingredients, fragrances, or preservatives that could worsen her flare-ups. Oh, and it all started in my kitchen: mixing over 50 formulations, performing lab tests, damaging the skin on my face more than once (learning the hard way, literally), looking through thousands of ingredients, and begging manufacturers to let me try their actives free of charge. As I've been self-funding this project from the start, I put all the money towards the formula, leaving nothing else for the website, packaging and social media marketing, so I've had to do all of that by myself. I've recorded a brief video with the help of a friend to tell my story to the world.

I love vibe-coding micro apps using Fable that are personalised to my specific needs. When I design custom logos or typography I reference existing material from various resources. So I prompted my way to Pinut app. A tiny macOS utility window that sits above anything else on my screen and allows me to drag or paste images so that I can reference them. It's really useful to make sure a font I designed renders correctly across various formats. If you'd also find this useful let me know and I'll publish it.

building a $1m business for the second time. weeks 1-2 recap. i talk about: - posting on X after years of being quiet - blowing up - new algo vs old algo - what has changed and what is the same this is why i hate video compared to long form writing. i forgot to state the most obvious thing. that before everything else, the point is to: - do INTERESTING, USEFUL AND DIFFERENT things - and SHARE them with the world now, after that, HOW you share those things with the world is what i'm talking about here. in long form writing, i can go back and refine my thoughts and arguments until they are complete. with video, i just vomit my thoughts and it's over. i guess i will either have to accept that this medium is for spitting out half-baked thoughts. or talk about concepts from my books that i have thought about deeply. not sure.

Last year Nolan finished filming some scenes in the area where I grew up in Sicily. I need to watch the odyssey just to see if I can spot some familiar scenery.
