The Wall St Journal editorial page is amazing. It's like opening a time portal to the mid-2000s. In the last few days alone, they've run opeds by John Bolton and Karl Rove about the virtues of regime change.

Iranians have created an artwork commemorating Zohreh Shahryari, a 34-year-old teacher who was killed in US airstrikes on the Shajareh Tayyebeh elementary school in Minab, killing more than 150 Iranian schoolgirls. She was pregnant. "Madam Teacher," the illustration reads

"The cost of replacing the first four days' worth of munitions would be $20bn-26bn. The problem, however, is more to do with scarcity than cost. America is thought to have used more than 300 Tomahawk cruise missiles in the opening days of the war, but the Pentagon had planned to buy just 57 new ones in the current fiscal year. There have been no deliveries of THAAD interceptors since 2023 and the Pentagon has not placed any new orders this year. A puny 39 interceptors are slated for delivery in 2027—six years after they were ordered." economist.com/briefing/2026/…

DC think tanks are not actually pro-war, and have been especially critical of this one. The more pointed critique is that often they peddle a peace-through-strength fantasy that helps weapons companies and frames the debate in ways that can make war more likely.
Nick Cleveland-Stout@nick_clevelands

Americans largely oppose the war on Iran. But the war is very popular among Washington think tanks, who are flush with more than $44 million from weapons companies since 2019 and act as the war’s loudest cheerleaders across major media networks 🧵

WSJ: Arab governments were furious about Israel’s attack and the U.S. failure to head it off, officials said. They had aggressively lobbied the Trump administration to stop U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iranian energy infrastructure and now feel a target has been put on their backs, they said… America’s Arab allies are now fuming that they don’t seem to have any influence with the Trump administration despite heavy investments of time and money.

12-year-old Imrain wants to know why his dad died in ICE custody. He told us he sees his dad, a former soldier who fought alongside American forces in Afghanistan, as a “hero.”
CBS News@CBSNews

12-year-old Imrain Paktiawal told CBS News' @camiloreports he still has no explanation for how his father, Mohammad Nazeer Paktiawal, died just one day after being taken into ICE custody in Texas. The 41-year-old Afghan immigrant was detained while preparing to take his children to school and died the next day at a Dallas hospital. His family says he was healthy and that he came to the U.S. legally under the Biden administration's Operation Allies Refuge, which welcomed tens of thousands of Afghans it evacuated from Afghanistan following the Taliban takeover. ICE said Paktiawal's parole status expired on Aug. 20, 2025 and that he was detained after two arrests by local authorities on fraud and theft charges. He was not convicted. cbsn.ws/4bze1i1

A poll by Daniel Biss's campaign found 51% of Dem voters viewed AIPAC unfavorably vs 17% favorably in the Illinois district where he was running. So, by the time AIPAC started spending against him, he had decided to make the group a villain. It worked. nytimes.com/2026/03/19/us/…

There were a few mid-level US officials who asserted publicly years ago that Xi had set a hard deadline of 2027 for a PLA invasion of Taiwan, but most serious analysts saw no evidence of that, nor did the US intelligence community ever have a consensus assessment saying that.
Shashank Joshi@shashj

I don't think the new ODNI assessment on Taiwan is much of a "shift", as suggested here. US never thought 2027 was a deadline, but a date by which Xi wanted the PLA to be ready. Not did it think PRC wanted to use force over other means. wsj.com/world/china/ch…

A New Policy
A New Policy@anewpolicyorg·
Josh Paul from @ANewPolicyOrg here - This is false, and @AP is correct. Per my own State Department contacts, among the jobs cut by @SecRubio last year were: 6 people working on countering violent extremism, 9 others working on counterterrorism, 5 people from the Middle East (NEA) Bureau, over 150 people working on consular support for Ameircans overseas, and almost 70 from the Bureau of Diplomatic Security, the agency responsible for protecting our Embassies. I've talked to many of them - it didn't make sense then, and it certainly doesn't now.
Tommy Pigott@StateDeputySpox

As we told @AP ahead of time, this story is not based in reality, but they wouldn't be deterred by the facts. We gave them detailed responses, but instead, they relied on vague and inaccurate criticism from unnamed or outside sources. Here is some of what we provided:
