Last week, @aarron and I interviewed OK Go—one of the most creative rock bands around right now—for a new series about the creative process on Design Better. We can't wait to help you get inspired and learn new creative tips and tactics, with guests including David Sedaris (extremely funny author), Autumn Durald Arkapaw (cinematographer for Loki and Wakanda Forever), Scott Hansen/Tycho (musician and designer), Ed Catmull (Pixar co-founder) and more surprise guests in store. Check out the trailer below (sound on preferably!), and subscribe here so you don't miss this series when it airs in the Fall: designbetterpodcast.com

And there’s this tomorrow if you’re in Sydney and would like a signed book. I guess they would take phone orders too.

You may have noticed a few changes to the Design Better Podcast in recent months, including a re-brand by the extremely talented @aaronstump. We also have some news to share: Design Better is now independently run by @aarron and me. We are deeply grateful to InVision's leadership, where our show began, and to our loyal listeners, some of whom have been with us since our start in 2017. For more details on our announcement, and to learn about our exciting plans for the show, visit our Substack: designbetterpodcast.com/p/announcement

One of the things we've been experimenting with on the Design Better Podcast is a post-show discussion about the episode between my co-host @aarron and me. I've also been playing with ways to make an animated version of these segments. I tried the generative AI route with tools like D-ID and others, but the results typically have that uncanny-valley creepiness factor to them. The most success I've had so far is with Adobe's animate-from-audio tool, but it would be nice to have more options to create customized characters that don't look like bad Hanna-Barbera characters from my childhood 😅 Anyone have ideas? Anyway, here's a clip from our post-show discussion after our chat with @johnmaeda. You can find the rest of the audio on our Substack (we talk about AI ethics, the Fermi Paradox, and more): thecuriositydepartment.substack.com/p/john-maeda-a…

@MarcoSuarez ALso love his late string quartets (e.g op 130-131)...back when I played cello it was my goal to be able to play them. didn't get to it, but could play some bach cello suites (poorly). maybe will get back to it sometime!

His Symphony no 7, Opus 92: 2 Allegretto is amazing. So much melody and emotion in so few notes.

To try to get my mind off work I've been reading Beethoven's bio. It's a bit of a slog but I've really been enjoying revisiting his music. Another example of a tragically afflicted person who's able to generate some of the most beautiful work the world has heard.

So many business and management books are written from the experience in tech. I’d love to read a good book from a wildly different perspective like manufacturing, healthcare, retail, etc.

I feel like I make more typos typing on my iPhone now than I used to. Is there a change to how they autocorrect or am I just getting sloppier?

“I have superpowers within my vulnerability and my insecurities, and I’ve employed those throughout my entire adult life with the work I’ve presented as a public figure, as a pop star, as a songwriter, as an artist, and as a photographer.” —Michael Stipe: tinyurl.com/WebbyDMCM
