Divergent recommendations about spirometry interpretation have confused primary and secondary care clinicians, as well as lung specialists. GOLD and GLI have now agreed how spirometry should be interpreted, issuing a joint statement @EuroRespSoc regarding the use of spirometry to define airflow obstruction and diagnose COPD.

On March 7, 2026, members and staff of the American Thoracic Society attended Stand Up for Science rallies in Washington D.C. and New York City. In Washington D.C., Vice President of the ATS D.C. chapter Helen D’Couto, MD, and in NYC, ATS President-Elect @MichelleNgGong, MD, MS, ATSF, both spoke on the importance of funding scientific research, ensuring public health through vaccinations and key initiatives, and maintaining clean air standards and policies, all to help the world breathe.
