I'll be taking some time off from social media. I need a break to recharge and focus on other aspects of life, including Francine Witt's next mystery. Be seeing you! 👌

We wanted to honour Dario Argento with 'profondo rosso' lighting for this #Suspiria inspired shot. Unfortunately, it didn't make the final cut, but it's available as a deleted scene with the #ÒrannahEala bonus features exclusively on Vimeo. 🎯 vimeo.com/ondemand/orann…

Juraj Herz's #Morgiana feels like a gothic fairy tale where the shadows have minds of their own. It's as if Edgar Allan Poe was invited to a tea party and brought his darkest imaginings along! 🇨🇿☯️

A Hitchcockian black and white thriller awaits you in the shape of The Universal Theory (2023). In UK cinemas from this Friday. Some quite amazing cinematography by Roland Stuprich as well. Variety review here: variety.com/2023/film/revi…

If you're thinkng of a Christmas present for a movie fan, small reminder about my new book Dear Orson Welles and other essays. @irishpages It's a bit wild, lush, playful, passionate. Themes include: LA/Hollywood, memory, childhood in film, Claire Denis, Welles, Iranian film...

Think about this from a professional point of view. A film executive or financier instantly dismisses a script because it's not part of his experience, even if he admits it's good. (I cite the film industry rather than book publishing because film is still so male-dominated).
Anna Biller@missannabiller

When my dad first read my book he said, "I don't know, it's so different from what I normally read." An hour later he shouted theatrically, "None of it is true!" A few months later, "It's so much like how I write that I had the uncanny feeling that I'd written it myself!"

I wrote a novel, and now all I want to do is write another novel and read lots of books for inspiration. But I need to snap out of it because I have a movie to make!!

@markcousinsfilm I said exactly the same thing, Mark. Should be “Imbued with the spirit of Scotland” imho.

The new Powell and Pressburger documentary is rich and wise on their films and ideas. But why call it "Made in England" when Powell was in love with Scotland, one of their best films is Scottish, Pressburger was Hungarian and many of their collaborators weren't English?

Great that there's a Powell and Pressburger film season on BBC. Heard from Thelma Schoonmaker that the doc I made about I Know Where I'm Going! will be shown too. Don't know when. Made it decades ago, not my usual style, but if you love IKWIG you might like it.

“FULL BODIED is a wild ride. Francine Witt, a wine expert who suddenly finds herself in the middle of a murder mystery, is smart and funny. She is also instantly relatable, and a whirlwind, which makes her journey even more thrilling.” 🍾🥂 mybook.to/full_bodied
