I have come to believe that effective pitches take the path of standup comedy. You start with a pitch, workshop it with a number of people, refine it and repeat. Eventually you arrive at the sharpest version that kills every time. The mistake that founders make is they jump to a deck too early in this process. This actually slows down the speed of iteration, because who wants to friggin re-do a slide that you spent hours finessing. So in the early days of your pitch, just talk talk talk! Tell your story to as many people as you can, and pay attention to when they lean in. Cut what's boring, double down on what pulls them in.
