Ugh… Look, I teach BASIC composition for college freshman. Easy just first writing basics. AI is destroying my classes. They all use it to cheat. It’s like saying “calculators are amazing! All kindergartners should have one.” Because students are refusing to learn the bare minimum on their own. They don’t WANT to know the basics. They don’t WANT to learn how to research and verify on their own. I’m getting papers where NOTHING has been checked. Where I’ve hidden prompts for AI within my prompts and the AI writes whole papers about the Gnome Liberation Front instead of the topic at hand, and the student doesn’t bother to correct it. Where ALL of the sources have been hallucinations and the student never once checked to verify if the person even existed. This isn’t the minority. This is the MAJORITY of my classes. AI isn’t helping ANYONE if they refuse to learn the skills they need to CORRECT the AI FIRST. They are using it as a crutch not a tool. I’m not a grievance party anything, but I deal with AI on a daily basis and it is NOT good.

The short-term disruption might be painful. But in the medium and long term, AI could be the most powerful tool for human flourishing ever devised.
