@DDCSGOo @torzsics there is no point going into detail on conjectural stuff, but there is a world where they have a formula with slightly different coeffecients for individual map ratings, it's highly unlikely, but it is of course possible. i don't think they use different formulae.

@expert9744 @torzsics 3) And that is the whole point of this discussion. What exactly is different between those two formulas? Because, mathematically, two formulas can't be the same, unless this is some kind of specific Simpson's paradox that I am not aware.

@expert9744 @torzsics Yes but how is T and CT side rating calculated then? According to a weighted calculation of (1.95 * 10 + 0.52 * 12)/22, his T rating should be 1.17 and not 1.08, no?

@DDCSGOo @torzsics i meant they add up the t side kills, t side deaths, t side rs, etc over all maps to calculate t side rating for the series, and then they do the same on ct side and calculate the ct side rating for the series and then they take weighted average by t side round and ct side round.

@DDCSGOo @torzsics because these aren't calculated using weighted averages, they simply add up the kills, deaths, round swing, etc etc for all the maps and put those back into the formula to calculate series rating for t side.

@DDCSGOo @torzsics most of the time, series rating is roughly between map ratings, but in cases like these where he has alternating good and bad halves, the series rating is vastly different from the average.

@DDCSGOo @torzsics because series rating isn't calculated using map ratings, hence there is no mathematical restriction for the series rating to be bounded by map ratings. 1/x

@torzsics less eco frags, more adr one more death traded so i think 1.19 and 1.15 is pretty representative

@vGeroto @torzsics it does, his 1.95 t side (10 rounds) rating on d2 and 0.55 ct side (12 rounds) rating averages to a 1.19. similarly his 0.52 t side (12 rounds) rating on anc and 1.90 ct side (10 rounds) rating averages to 1.15.

@expert9744 @torzsics But how does it not reflect on map ratings themselves? Wouldnt the bad half reduce the good half rating in the same way?

@DDCSGOo @torzsics HLTV don't calculate it like that. they add up the t side stats over all maps and calculate t side rating for the series, and then they do the same for ct side and then take the weighted average as i did.

@expert9744 @torzsics You missed the point. The question is: how can he have high ratings for separate maps, but his rating drops heavily when calculated all together. If you calculate weighted averages for each half PER MAP, you get: (1.95*10+12*0.55+10*1.9+0.52*12)/44 = 1.1668

@torzsics Your T side on D2 was really good, but your T side on Anc was really bad, that's why you only had a 1.08 as you T side rating for the series. You had a great CT side on Anc but your D2 CT side was bad, so your CT side rating for series was 1.09.

@torzsics Match: hltv.org/stats/matches/… Rating is calculated by doing a weighted average of the T side rating and CT side rating. T side rating=1.08 T side rounds=22 CT side rating=1.09 CT side rounds=22 (1.08*22+1.09*22)/44=1.085 which gets rounded to 1.09

@Mauisnake @kassad it's also inaccurate pre-2016? the filter is better for 2015 than 2014, 2013 or 2012, but it is still very limited. hltv.org/stats/events?s… only the 7 majors and 7 other events are categorized as big events in this 3.5 year period. (which is just inaccurate)

@kassad Big Event is such a lame filter in 2026 anyways. It's hardly a distinction for tier 1 players. was more useful back pre-2018 imo
