"Saturn Devouring His Son" by Francisco Goya. This painting was one of 14 oil pieces (known as his Black Paintings) that Goya painted directly onto the walls of his farmhouse outside Madrid between 1819 and 1823. He was in his 70s at the time and had survived a few serious illnesses (one of which left him deaf in one ear) while grappling with his own mortality. Goya also suffered from depression and trauma from the horrors of war that he had witnessed at the hands of Napoleon and the Spanish monarchy. Moreover, the Enlightenment era in Spain that Goya had cherished during his childhood and youth had been replaced by an absolute monarchy that rejected the Spanish Constitution of 1812, which was one of the most progressive at the time. All these factors contributed to Goya's Black Paintings, which were never meant for public display. The title, "Saturn Devouring His Son," was given much later due to its resemblance to Roman mythology. However, for all we know, Goya could have just been depicting a larger person eating a smaller person as a way to portray his bleak outlook on the future of humankind.

An older study of a set of Xeres sub/species that still holds a lot of value for me. Formerly of the Court of Charity, the Xeres' were originally Celestial, exemplifying multi-fold symmetry; their transformation upon their Descent to underneath Hell's mantle was rapid and drastic

Picked up TotK for my birthday last month and played it over an art sabbatical. Thought it'd be fun to end my break with a quick Sidon. A thought about the Zora: I wonder if their stylistic frills are "natural", or cut out of / flayed from the body like a sort of extreme body mod

@mikefranchina_ That Blizzard didn't use these is a colossal loss - these are awesome! If I saw these in a survival horror 1/3PS the reaction would absolutely be a real "what the hell is th--JESUS CHRIST" while firing wildly. I want to see and HEAR 1 and 3 in motion so badly.

@f_intothevoid Franck, your sculpts are things I'd want to stand in the presence of irl - they look like they carry living heat. How do you go about putting these together? I imagine you have a library of sculpted parts you pull from past pieces to help start new projects?

Lesser Silk Horn Imp. Picked away at this slowly until I got the sketch where I wanted it for line art, then promptly realised: "I hate this for reasons I cannot discern" and haven't touched it since. Maybe it'll grow on me later and I can pick it back up.

Doing some spider research and I'm reminded all over again how cool spiders are: Holding a tarantula has been on my bucket list for years (alongside millipedes) - someday it'll happen!

@FromHappyRock It took effort not to reply and ask how he managed to miss a point so thoroughly. I want to tell myself it's probably a troll, but Poe's Law is alive and well, and I've seen too much genuine stupidity to say someone can't be that stupid.

When you’re playing a game and something a character says makes you laugh- you’re responding to the lived experience, craft and sense of humor of a human writer. When you’re noticing the open world feels enticing, quests engaging, content rich- that’s because of human designers.

@FromHappyRock I mean, there's a prime example in the earlier replies - "I laugh at jokes because they're funny, not because of lived experience." The person who said this fundamentally doesn't get that lived experience is what allows the joke to be written in the first place.

@FromHappyRock This is all true, but the people you want to actually understand this likely never will, because they aren't here for the experience or what made that experience, they just want "more" at any cost. They consume only, they don't care how it's made or allowed it to be made.
