When Amuro explains Quess was looking for a parental figure, Char's reaction goes from "That's why I found her irritating" to "I want a parental figure too".
Char finds irritating someone he can relate to, it reveals how little he thinks of himself at this point of his life.

tomino, in the interview, talked about the word "mother" what it meant in the question what he thought of it when he wrote it which is unconditional love, not what it meant to char it in this context. Don't mix it.

@ezalgirlyify That's not the case. Char has goal oriented motivations but this specific part is relationship oriented. Tomino explains it in an interview, that in the final moments of Char he wanted to make him more vulnerable and yearning for unconditional love, which translates as parental.

Writing "Quess needed a father" into "Char needed a mother" isn't random, so it does mean something that he would say "she was looking for a father, that's why I found her irritating." It's subtext, if not text.
