archive.org/details/utah_u… there we have it, the unix v4 tape. not quite sure how to read analog.tap correctly yet but looking just in a text editor i see kernel source that is between nsys (pre-v4) and v5. curious how complete that system will turn out to be :)

Head-tracked “Window Mode.” Your front camera finds your head. The view reprojects in real time so the screen feels like a window into the 3D scene. True3D, no glasses.

I'm excited to share this special episode of The Generalist featuring Alan Kay and Anjan Katta—one I've been anticipating for quite some time. Why the Real Computer Revolution Never Happened In this conversation, I'm joined by two extraordinary guests: Alan Kay, a pioneer of modern computing, and @AnjanKatta, founder of @daylightco, who's reimagining the personal computer for our AI age. We explore how artificial intelligence is reshaping our relationship with computers, whether current paradigms serve us well as AI becomes ubiquitous, and what new models of human-computer interaction we need to thrive alongside intelligent machines. This is a conversation about reclaiming agency in an age of algorithms and imagining computing tools that amplify human intelligence rather than replace it. Listen now: • YouTube: youtube.com/watch?v=MbEZ-D… • Spotify: open.spotify.com/episode/51KrTm… • Apple: podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/why… A big thank you to the incredible sponsors that make the podcast possible: ✨ Augment Code — AI coding assistant that pro engineering teams love: augmentcode.com/generalist ✨ Brex — The banking solution for startups: brex.com/mario ✨ Generalist+ — Essential intelligence for modern investors and technologists: thegeneralist.substack.com/subscribe We explore: → Why Alan believes the "computer revolution" commercialized in the wrong direction, missing the deeper humanistic vision of early computing pioneers → How the structure of information, from pagination to platforms, shapes the way we think → How Daylight is creating a reading and writing-focused device that helps access our "prefrontal cortex" rather than our "lizard brain" → The concept of a magical medium, and how computing might help us become our best selves → Why Marshall McLuhan's media theories predicted our current technological predicament decades before it happened → The critical difference between intelligence and wisdom in computing systems, and why wisdom should be our focus → How thoughtful constraints in computing design can lead to better thinking and more meaningful interaction → The urgency of developing systems thinking in a world facing complex challenges …And much more!

I eventually watched the anti-OOP talk by @cmuratori. It was actually about ECS (which is just relational data modeling rehashed), but fails to even identify what OOP is, and thus to criticize it. At best it is a weak criticism of C++, and a bit of Smalltalk.

@ezebirman @leonegianmarco @cmuratori Do you have a URL/source for that? Seems interesting. But UML and other "object modeling" is actually relational modeling, nothing to do with any OO language except hype. Message passing is Erlang, also not OO (though you can express it the hard way). Inheritance... is enough
