HOW HOLLYWOOD DESTROYED THE MALE ACTION HERO:
Hollywood murdered the action hero and replaced him with a guy who apologizes to his gun before firing it. Hollywood really looked at the 80s action hero playbook and said "nah, too problematic."
Instead we got the Emotional Support Avenger Cinematic Universe.
Here’s the autopsy report.
*80s Schwarzenegger - Commando*: Carries a tree, a rocket launcher, and zero emotional baggage. "I eat Green Berets for breakfast."
*2020s MCU Spider-Man*: Cries to Tony Stark’s hologram for 3 movies. Gets anxiety from responsibility. Needs Dr. Strange to clean up his mess.
One inspired gym memberships. The other inspired therapists.
*Stallone - Rambo*: Sewed his own arm shut with fishing line. Killed 83 people without a quip.
*Chris Pratt - Star-Lord*: Primary weapon is dance-offs and daddy issues. Gets half the universe dusted because he couldn’t control his feelings.
"Legendary Outlaw" more like "Legendary Outburst."
*Bruce Willis - John McClane*: "Yippee-ki-yay, motherf***er." Bloody, smoking, shoeless in Nakatomi Plaza.
*Tom Holland - Nathan Drake*: "Oh gosh oh gee I’m so sorry Mr. Villain." Gets his ass kicked by gravity more than bad guys.
Die Hard? More like Die Soft.
*Sly - Rocky IV*: Took 12 rounds from a Soviet death machine, won the Cold War with his fists.
*Michael B. Jordan - Adonis Creed*: Needs 3 montages and a trauma therapist to beat a guy who insulted his dad.
We went from "If I can change, you can change" to "If I can cry, you can cry."
*Clint Eastwood - Any 80s movie*: Squints. Shoots. Doesn’t explain.
*Timothée Chalamet - Dune*: Squints. Cries. Explains the prophecy for 2.5 hours.
One makes you want to buy a .44 Magnum. The other makes you want to buy oat milk.
80s heroes made boys steal their dad’s dumbbells.
Modern heroes make boys steal their mom’s heels.
Congrats Hollywood. You took masculinity, therapy-fied it, and sold it back as “progress.”
You didn’t evolve the hero. You neutered him.
Box office is the report card. And it’s an F.
