At #DDW2025, Nofel Iftikhar shared findings on disparities in pain management for IBD patients who underwent bowel resection. Hispanic patients were less likely than NHW patients to receive opioids, gabapentinoids, and antispasmodics, despite similar surgery rates.

#DDW2025 Dr. Ali Aalam: Using representative data from the NEDS database (2012–2021), our study quantifies the growing burden of Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis patients presenting to EDs, highlighting how major complications and comorbidities impact admission rates.

At #DDW2025, Tomas Potlach identified demographic predictors of opioid exposure in IBD patients with history of bowel obstructions. Hispanic ethnicity, male sex, Crohn’s disease, and age >=65 were independent risk factors for opioid exposure.
