LPs/GPs/founders view the world through very different sized lenses, and I understand there're wider circumstances I'm ignorant of, but this funding market is going to be such a challenge for some great teams. Yes it might sharpen some, but some biz don't work with profit on Day1

@briannekimmel Chinese brand name VCs have been going earlier and earlier for the past 2 years. Totally get the attractiveness of this deal to founders. Unfortunately most founders won’t make it to Series C/D where they will find their options limited and go for this deal.

A $1M check from a16z tells me you're not ready to raise money... If you're leaving a high growth startup & convinced 2-3 other smart people to join you, that's a $3-6M round. I don't believe anyone that can raise money, should raise money. Have a plan and play the long game.

Our web 2 infra founder: can build Dune in 2 weekends and make it 10X better. And can’t believe they use 3 hour old data. Guess Web 3 tech stack has a lot of room for improvement🤣

Friend at BAT was going to quit and join a database software startup, but messages me today: going directly into web 3. He’s now considering between a DAO opportunity and a interoperability startup 🤷‍♀️

Have never felt so grateful for my parents for giving me an overseas identity. They made sacrifices for that choice, losing a decade of wealth boom. This country has improved a lot since, yet respect and dignity is still so unevenly distributed.

China’s governing machine is built for upside incentives (economics) not downside ones (zero COVID cases), that is the major problem. The latter pits the interest of the govt and the people against each other.

You’ve won if you’re building a startup around a problem you’re passionate about with people you care about.

Many of our portfolio co’s at Monad have brought up Chinese SME factories as ripe for digitalization, but very few understand how to market and sell to these entities at scale 🤔

He gave me tips on how software assumes perfect information & don’t understand the messy realities of a small factory owner. You can’t expect the Boss to follow rules of the system (even tho they’re best practices), they simply don’t have the time...

We were discussing industrial software on a Didi ride today, and the driver turns around, says: I’m an expert. Turns out he was on the factory side of Oracle’s first industrial ERP implementation in China at Panasonic BJ.
