@Ruxiiii4 What are your thoughts on France’s high press structure? Or high press in general

Zidane Iqbal (23), midfielder, playing at Utrecht. Marches Doski (26), left fullback, playing at Viktoria Plzen. Two Iraqi players who have really impressed me with their performances.

@f00tballnerd @umirf1 He was then fell out of contention. I don’t believe any player in Utrecht is better than him. Then again Tony Pulis didn’t fancy Gnarby at WBA and Vitinha didn’t do well at Wolves.

Genuinely don't understand how Zidane Iqbal isn't playing at a higher level domestically.

This is mainly because some coaches push many players into the last line, especially full-backs and midfielders. If you lose the ball inside, you become very exposed. They rely more on fast circulation from one side to the other to eventually find the numerical advantages created by using many players to overload the opposition’s back line. However, the best way to threaten a defensive block is by playing inside, between the lines, and having a specialist in that zone, like Messi. Once you conquer the space between the lines, defenders have to narrow inside, which allows you to access the outside areas for the wingers, or to look for inside combinations while waiting for the full-backs to arrive dynamically, as Argentina do. Playing inside is more risky, but the reward is bigger. Argentina can risk playing passes inside because they have quality, but mainly because they keep many players behind the ball, which protects them if they lose possession. They are also very good at finding these passes through the middle by using deception.

Argentina and the art of progressive passing through deception. Argentina has something different from many other teams: they have an incredible number of players capable of playing progressive passes. They don’t need players holding the width to create spaces inside and find players between the lines. They can do it through deception. Their ability to find players between the lines comes from disguising their intentions before playing the pass. De Paul, Enzo Fernández, Mac Allister, Messi, and even their centre-backs, Cuti Romero and Lisandro Martínez, are excellent at manipulating opponents before progressing the ball. This is one of the key differences. They have multiple elite passers who can break lines. And at a time when many coaches avoid taking risks with these types of actions, Scaloni continues to encourage his players to attempt them. Having many players inside, close together in short distances, also helps them manage the risk. If a progressive pass is intercepted, they are immediately positioned to counter-press and recover the ball. That combination of technical quality, deception, and structure is one of the reasons Argentina are so difficult to defend. This is the result of being loyal to the type of players you produce. In Argentina, deception is an art.

@umirf1 Think his better in midfield icl… why move him to fullback? Sure he can play their when needed but you lose a lot of his good attributes at FB(if you wanna play him there consistently)

Morocco are proof that when you build the right foundations, you don’t have to chase talent, talent comes to you. They’ve set the blueprint, and other African federations should be following it.
