I talk about this a lot on here but after a male nurse did a non-consensual pelvic exam on me at 14 years old during an ER visit it took me 11 years to go back to the gynecologist. I can’t wrap my mind around looking at women’s hesitation in disbelief

I think what really bothers me when it comes to the pap smear conversation is that people are just being cruel for no reason. They don't have to be mean to a vulnerable person, usually a girl or young woman in this case, but they're choosing to be.

it’s interesting that talking about fear, pain and trauma around pap smears is called fearmongering, but responding with “cervical cancer is worse” and graphic cancer-treatment examples is not. fear isn't the solution for any of these issues!

hi, medical and women's historian here: women's fear of pap smears, as well as their fear of vaginal exams, is beyond reasonable. gynecology has been rife with misogyny for centuries, the "father of modern gynecology" practiced on slaves w/o anesthesia. don't ridicule other women

Idk how feminism got interpreted to mean that women never have to experience discomfort ever. Vaccines have side effects, getting cavities filled hurts, getting blood drawn is uncomfortable but it’s a small price to pay for the miracle of modern medicine
