💡 Why would a firm spend millions training workers it doesn’t even employ? From open-sourcing to certifications, superstar firms often train the workforce of their customers. My JMP explains why. 🧵

@KhoaVuUmn @joachim_voth It's hard to get identification when asking big questions. I sometimes ask my students to draw a PPF of "big ideas" and "identification." It's good know where you sit on that graph (with a project or as a scholar), and make a conscious decision on where you'd like to be.

Thrilled to have received the Young Economist Award from the Italian Association of Labor Economists. Especially honored that it is in memory of Carlo Dell’Arringa whom I had the chance to meet during my studies and who contributed to shaping my desire to become a labor economist

Now, here’s a little secret. Do you want to win a best paper award? Just put “Melting Pot” in the title. Totally causal.

Europe's compute/AI/tech/innovation (all scale, cluster intensive) deficit cannot be solved without mechanisms to share the gains from concentration. Member states will demand their own data centers, ensuring fragmentation in an industry where scale is all. siliconcontinent.com/p/should-every…

(Youngian) meritocracy often reduces social mobility because wealthy parents invest heavily in their children's education when it reliably predicts success.
