Fun fact: QC for this dataset was basically a big chunk of my thesis. Very painful phenotype. Of course, this is a brief report so it only ended up being a sentence in methods.

What is the correct number of M&Ms to eat at a time (i.e. to put in your mouth, I don’t mean in one sitting because the answer to that Q is clearly “the whole bag”)? Running a very important experiment.

Our latest work builds upon the previous CAD work by A) assessing performance of our IRT in ASCVD (a tougher phenotype than CAD) and very importantly : B) validating performance on multiple ethnicities. Must-read thread by @mikeweale
Mike Weale@mikeweale

1/9 Hot on the heels of our CAD paper (ahajournals.org/doi/10.1161/CI…) comes our clinical validation across multiple ethnicities and ancestries of a new integrated risk tool for atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) (shiny post-proof format: ajconline.org/article/S0002-…).

Funny story in which this usually gets literally translated into Spanish as "llamado de variantes", "llamado" from "llamar" as in "to call someone". Makes no sense to me and I always try to say "variant identification" (but it's hard)
Daniel MacArthur@dgmacarthur

Does anyone have a clear sense of the etymology of "variant calling"? Why do we say "calling" for "defining sequence at a particular site"? A non-genomicist just asked me this and I realised I have no idea.

Just out, here is our take on the much debated topic of utility of PRS for cardiovascular disease prevention. Big improvement for middle-aged men, but classification improved across the board, with different types of improvement across age and sex. medrxiv.org/content/10.110…
