Dear Science twitter, I'm looking for a list of REU-like experiences but for international students that don't qualify for REUs. Something like this list: nsf.gov/crssprgm/reu/l… Any pointers?
Excellent talk by @bezray2 and @DrewWham on a ML method for inferring the difference in color patterns between individuals! This will have some really cool application in find the genetic basis of complex color patterns and development! #Evol2021
@snaild_it shows that a misspecified model for training ML methods to detect introgression reduces power to accurately call sites as introgressed. BUT matching mutation/recombination rates in training and testing sets can fix this problem (sometimes). #Evol2021
Really great presentation of work by Sarah Marion (from @mafnoor's lab) quantifying the number of lethal mutations in wild drosophila populations. Beautifully explained crossing design! #Evol2021
@Grey_Monroe
shows through mutation accumulation in arabidopsis that gene bodies might have a lower base mutation rate, maybe this effect is shaped by selection to decrease the probability of deleterious mutations! #Evol2021
@Kmwinchell shows that anoles evolving in urban environments are convergently evolving the same morphology in different populations and the same genomic regions seem to be involved across populations. #Evol2021
@juanitaguv Shows that sexual selection is likely driving patterns of negative selection in pollen expressed genes rather than haploid purging! #Evol2021
@SMWadgymar gives an excellent talk about the importance of plasticity to climate change evolution, but also beautifully ties in the importance of climate change research on minority communities and the importance of outreach and education. I cant clap enough! @Evol2021
Awesome results from @pinskylab showing little evidence of selection from fisheries changing wild populations of fish, not at all what I'd expect! #Evol2021
@ZachGompert shows that drift and diversity can get decoupled in structured populations. And (on a personal note) maybe my tattoo is an oversimplification of diversity. #Evol2021
Really cool data from haplodiploids comparing males and females to estimate the amount of deleterious recessive alleles from diversity data by Sara Miller #Evol2021!
Excellent talk about color adaptation to elevation by @aeberardi The science was great, but the communication (slide layout, design, and use) were superb! Great example of excellence in a recorded talk! #Evol2021
