My biggest pet peeve is when people read ancient Greek philosophy and think that because it’s ancient and Greek that it’s right, or good, or whatever. Like no dude these political philosophies were dumb as fuck. Calling yourself a ‘philosopher-king’ is not democratic
@do_re_me_bo@CoffeewClassics Then translate it yourself, they give you the original language. And if you can’t translate it then how are you determining the quality of the translation?
@untimelysalts@AntiPlebeian Is the future no religion or a “religion of the future”? If it’s a religion of the future, historically speaking, waves of second-religiousness use cultural forms of past religiosity, and are perceived subjectively as ‘returns’ to the immortal transcendent, & not just nostalgia
@AntiPlebeian@facebookinsta2 If you want the serious answer, we're simply not going to return to becoming a religious society. It's a non-starter. And there is no consensus among Americans for example that Catholicism ought to be the overarching religion.
We need a religion of the future.
Yes, the McDonalds is less colorful because of "hatred of God".
These people are ridiculous.
In truth, the logic of capital efficiency is a logic of streamlining. What comes with this is rationalization, i.e. trying to create beauty out of "simplicity".
@Grimezsz You know you don’t NEED to have an opinion on stuff like this. You can just leave it to other people to work out the details of how the world works, and you can focus on the music
I'm not a communist - I'm probably a capitalist but I think the incentives in capitalism are bad, and the dollar shud be backed by something more meaningful - like trees. I know that's insane and likely impossible but I'm an artist so my job is to say things like this
@DevinGoure@LokiEstraven I didn’t know it was a shtick you just popped up in my feed and I replied. You’re probably hearing it 10,000 times because it’s obviously true, maybe you should re evaluate this whole thing that you’re seemingly basing your identity off of for some reason
@facebookinsta2@LokiEstraven You are approximately the 10,000th person to do the “Nietzsche is incompatible with leftism” schtick in my replies. Sorry, no, I don’t respond seriously anymore. Have a great day facebookinsta, you sound like a super rad dude.
@DevinGoure@LokiEstraven Probably because commitment to leftism and commitment to Nietzschean morality in any honest way is irreconcilable. So people see your name and assume you either don’t know what you’re talking about or you’re being intentionally obtuse
@RadishHarmers Heisenberg credited Plato’s Timaeus for inspiring him to a correct conception of atomism. Speculation on the nature of the atom isn’t a wild guess, it’s metaphysics. You don’t learn anything about the metaphysics of an atom by continually zooming in w/ modern tech.
I do not respect ancient Greek philosophy, any more than I respect ancient Greek telephony or ancient Greek nanotechnology. Just coasting on getting your word roots into shit you had no idea about. Chem 101 textbooks crediting Democritus for wild-ass guesses about "atoms".
These videos put forward this idea they’re taking down elite powerful pedophile rings and then it’s a clearly mentally retarded man who can’t dress himself and probably lives with his mother. You get the feeling this guy would have never actually gotten a girl to meet up anyway
@FadedMagnet@fanceru@Howlingmutant0 You’re wrong. Attempt is a crime in and of itself. Also intent is not necessary to commit a crime, there are many crimes that don’t require an intentional mental state (you could be criminally negligent or reckless).
@fanceru@Howlingmutant0 No, it’s not, and that’s why I’m uncomfortable with it.
Intent is NECESSARY to commit a crime; it’s not SUFFICIENT.
There are a lot of Muslim “terrorists” who were manipulated into going along with fictitious terror plots by the FBI, and I’m not comfortable with those either.
