They exist to provide support and collective bargaining power for tenants. So bad actor landlords cannot take advantage of people. No one is mad at people renting their basements for some extra cash.

Most landlords are only allowed to raise the rent annually a very small percentage to cover increases in costs, of which, if you are intelligent, you know there are increases.

The only good thing about him running for mayor is it makes it certain he will not break his promise to not run for a 3rd term.
