Arbeloa is being very honest in these last remaining pressers and it's very eye opening. As I wrote about it here, you can't ignore the defensive structure of the team when Vini is paired with one of Brahim (and rarely, but also GG). Paradoxically the team doesn't have trouble scoring without Mbappe either. Players like Fede and Jude get more offensive freedom. Vinicius plays with more confidence. But it can't come down due injuries to wait to see this version of Real Madrid every time (with the obvious caveat that this particular game is meaningless, but there is a solid 2-year sample size of what doesn't work) for the board to realize they need to make a huge decision, otherwise accept that we get a few more years of failure.
If there is a coach that can come on and get Mbappe to sacrifice then I will build him a statue. But I don't see it. He is 27. He is who he is, and pairing him with Vinicius definitely doesn't work. If you want to build around him, you can't do it as currently constructed. The mistakes that were made were made. You have to cut losses and it's not going to be easy.
For this reason I am pretty pessimistic about next season as well, because I'm skeptical they'll make the right decisions to move the needle enough.
