Here are some great pieces of advice if you want to make your hardware more manufacturable that we're using: 1. Standardize your fasteners to one type or family. 2. Lowering the assembly time in your entire supplychain is the goal, not just your own assembly time. 3. Use Elon Musks idiot index to figure out what components should be replaced or altered. 4. Customization is death. Off-the-shelf is resilient.

We're in Stockholm. You know how there are some places where you think "Nice place to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there"? Stockholm is the kind of place that makes you want to live there.

everyone wants to copy Shenzen into America, no one wants to run a 5% margin business with constant cutthroat competition
Y Combinator@ycombinator

Hardware Supply Chain @dessaigne In Shenzhen, a team can go from design to a new physical part in a day. In the US, that same loop often takes weeks, and that gap compounds. The overall stack for rapid hardware iteration still doesn't exist in America, and we want to fund the startups building it.

@JasonPremoMFG Instant quoting for customer accounts then? Doesn’t have to keep it open to the public.

"All machine shops must have AI online instant quoting. Otherwise how will 100,000 random internet people with gmail and proton mail accounts upload their CAD files to get instant pricing and commoditize it like buying something from Amazon gaww!!"

@Colonize_Titan We (usually) get quotes back to customers in 1 day. Sometimes hours. While we do help some startups, most of our customers are established firms that actually want to TALK first, fill out forms & surveys etc Plus I need to make sure they are not commies or Taylor Swift fans

Building software-powered hardware is the ultimate moat. Two dimensions of complexity where collaboration between different domains becomes increasingly complex as your product gets more functions.

Electronics in Space @PhilipJohnston Reusable rockets are about to dramatically increase humanity's capacity to put things in space, and that means an enormous new market for compute built to operate there. We want to see inference chips optimized for mass, thermal, and radiation tolerance, built for a world where space is no longer out of reach.

Defence companies need to start using the idiot index when looking to manufacture. Idiot Index = Final Product Price ÷ Raw Material Cost The higher the ratio, the more "idiotic" the markup. Taxpayers are losing money due to this inherent markup. This is one of the reasons the US is running out of munitions in the war against Iran.

The most pivotal military invention has to be nuclear weapons Before nukes, great powers went to war the way people get into bar fights, someone throws a punch, see how it goes. After nukes, the entire equation changed: you hit me, I hit you back, and now nobody has a civilization to go home to. The cost of war became infinite. Feels like everyone has forgot the world has nukes. Country-leaders will get executed either way so why not just take everyone down with them?

feels like a good time to seriously rethink how operating systems and user interfaces are designed (also the internet; there should be a protocol that is equally usable by people and agents)

@joni_askola or here is another idea: all countries start mass-producing drones (we need decentralised production of defence equipment). 90% is donated to ukraine, 10% is stockpiled

We need to get much more creative in how we rearm Europe and support Ukraine. Here is one idea: we buy Ukrainian drones and missiles for our own stockpiles, but let Kyiv use them right now. They can physically deliver our orders after the war

Anduril's smaller kamikaze drone is ... interesting. 1. The idiot index the gap between raw materials and finished product cost. A high idiot index = manufacturing inefficiency. 25k per kamikaze system is a fraud. @PalmerLuckey what the actual fuck? The input components of that drone is so fucking cheap? The drones we sell at Tenet Industries cost max 500 USD to 1 000 USD with western components. 2. Scalability is a joke Anduril can produce 100 systems per month? a squad of four ukrainian soldiers can use 200 drones per day.. At Tenet we can produce 250 drones in 8 hours in current capacity. @anduriltech just subcontract your kamikaze quadcopter line to us. you will make more money.
Damian Player@damianplayer

Anduril revealed an AI-powered kamikaze drone that fits in a backpack, weighs 15 pounds, and finishes the strike at will. pretty fucking sick.
