Really feels like you're a sitting duck 🦆🎯 owning property in 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 12% stamp duty when you buy. Top council tax 2.45x Band D, from 2x...with talk of raising that further. Up to 20% stamp duty if you dare to buy a holiday home, which you'll also pay double council tax on. An extra 8% stamp duty if you buy-to-let. Too expensive to ever pay stamp twice, so don't even think about moving home. And now a "mansion tax" if you own a half-decent place in Edinburgh. Plus you're always told you're the bad guy for not paying your fair share 🤣 Can't take much more of this..
The Herald@heraldscotland

Nearly 6,000 Edinburgh households are set to be hit by the SNP’s new mansion tax, another assault on the capital’s aspirational middle classes, writes Herald columnist John McLellan ✍️

@AlexNeilSNP 28% of the regional vote but not a single seat to show for it. A truly bonkers strategy. Alex Salmond was spot on with his supermajority plan. Too many egos aboard the SNP gravy train.

But the SNP is saying that even if the pro independence parties get an overall majority it won’t count unless the SNP itself has an overall majority. This is unlikely to happen and is a total insult to every non-SNP pro independence voter. You’re putting party before country

Latest poll for Sunday Times has SNP on 62 seats and an independence majority of MSP! But you need to vote to make it a reality on the 7th May.

@GMacdonaldSNP The real story is the SNP predicted to get 29% of the regional vote but not a single seat to show for it.

@PeteWishart Do you really believe 50% on £43-50k is fair and reasonable? 50%! It’s the SNP that should be doing something about it.

This is just complete rubbish. Going either in Business or First have become significantly better in just the last 20 years. That includes vastly superior food options. The braying about the “golden age” of air travel is from lumpen proles who today fly economy, but in the 1970s simply wouod not have flown at all. It’s pure ressentiment for something that was never in their reach to begin with.
Fahad Naim@Fahadnaimb

This vintage shot of Air France chefs loading fresh gourmet trays onto a 707 hits different. Back then, airlines competed on food quality to lure passengers. Now it's all about cheap tickets and packed seats. Is this progress or a significant downgrade?

@fr_oblivion9 @MhairiHunter Exactly. So banging on about an indy majority is as if it was something they don’t already have is at best an insult to the intelligence of voters & at worst a cheap con trick. Their focus should be on becoming a credible party of governance. Something sorely lacking since 2014.

@fr_oblivion9 @MhairiHunter Which takes me back to my original point. There is a pro-independence majority in Holyrood now. What has the SNP done with it, and if they are going to campaign on this ticket again in 2026, what will they do differently in their next term?

@indyscotnews The problem runs much deeper than Swinney. For one thing there’s no-one waiting in the wings to replace him. At least no-one that isn’t just another trougher of average intelligence. The SNP needs destroyed and replaced.

@Grouse_Beater 2/3 majority or a retrial seems entirely reasonable to me. Incarcerating someone, or indeed setting them free, on the say so of just 8 of 15 randomly chosen people seems like a very low bar for such a decision.

Read carefully: I spent over two weeks serving on a jury in a rape case quite recently. We in Scotland live under Scots law. The pressure on us now is to convince a minimum of 10 of our peers to say guilty or not guilty is unacceptable, otherwise it's a hung jury and probably a new trial. If only life was black or white - eh?

SCOTS LAW End of 'Not Proven' verdict, that is, not enough evidence to bring an action to the court Against Scotland's Law Society's protests, the unique not proven verdict in Scotland’s justice system will be scrapped from New Year’s Day, 2026, as major reforms come into force. The Law Society of Scotland expressed profound concerns about introducing “untested” changes to the criminal court system. One change is moving from a simple majority to a two-thirds majority of 10 out of 15 jury members now required to convict is introduced “to ensure fairness and balance”, according to the Scottish Government. The Victims, Witnesses, and Justice Reform (Scotland) Act was passed by MSPs earlier this year, bringing an end to the verdict, as well as increasing the majority needed on a jury to two-thirds of the 15 people. The move is another step in bringing Scots Law into line with English Law, an action wholly at odds with the Act of Union.

@SCoastSteve @tomhfh Registration mark formats differ in GB and NI hence the separate badges originally. BoJo wanted UK branding everywhere so GB was changed a few years back.

Until 2021 British motorists travelling to the continent would be asked to display a GB sticker on the rear of their car. Post 2021 the EU told us they wanted to see “UK”. Around the same time US immigration started to insist on immigration forms being completed with UK not GB as port of embarkation. Who changed this? And why?

‘UK’ is a horrible soulless term that only became popularised this century. Get rid. Next time you’re about to write or say ‘UK’ - stop, think, and replace it with Britain or British instead. RETVRN.
