Wow. I want to write a simple driver for HP Printers in Windows. A zero bloatware driver - that just prints.

@faradayfury Thanks for saving a perfectly fine printer from the landfill.

@faradayfury This was so freaking fun to read! Thanks for writing this up, made my day :)

@faradayfury It patches the installer to make the Intel driver install on Apple Silicon. And it installs the Rosetta emulation layer to make it work.
Be warned that in Apple will drop Rosetta in macOS 28 in September next year. support.apple.com/en-us/102527

i get a lot of shit for being too anal about design details. so here's my rant of the day:
- top left looks crazy
- top right looks stupid
- bottom right looks cute af
- smack in the middle is basic.
thats an awful lot of range when you change 2 variables in a smiley.
think about what happens when you alter hundreds of details
design is in the details. the details are everything.

hey henk, thanks for the original reply that got me thinking on the same lines
i did this yesterday, used claude to compile foo2xqx natively for arm. the tricky part wasn’t the compilation, it was getting around CUPS sandboxing on macOS (Ghostscript’s dylibs get blocked). ended up bundling everything into the filter directory with loader_path rewrites. repo coming soon 😄

@faradayfury I would recommend asking Codex / Claude Code within the next year or so reverse engineer the actual driver code and recompile it for Apple Silicon.
There may also be a CUPS driver "for Linux or BSD" that you may get to work the printer system of macOS (there's CUPS in there).
