Farhang Foundation mourns the horrific loss of innocent lives in Iran. We are deeply saddened by the suffering of families and communities who are enduring unimaginable grief. Our hearts are with the people of Iran in this painful moment in our history. Iran is one of the world’s oldest civilizations and the birthplace of human rights, articulated more than 2,500 years ago by Cyrus the Great. The sanctity of life, respect for human dignity, and the fundamental importance of freedom are values woven into the very fabric of Iranian history and culture. These principles are essential to the Iranian people and have endured across centuries of hardship, violence, and loss. Farhang Foundation stands in solidarity with the people of Iran and affirms the universal importance of human rights, compassion, and humanity. We honor the resilience of the Iranian people and hold space for remembrance, empathy, and hope. Farhang Foundation

Iran is one of the world’s oldest civilizations and the birthplace of human rights, first articulated over 2,500 years ago by Cyrus the Great. However, Iran’s enduring importance and resilience have always flowed from something deeper: Iranians and Iranian culture. Across centuries of hardship, upheaval, invasion, and injustice, Iranians have always prevailed, not because of power or politics, but because of our art, poetry, music, philosophy, language, and collective memory. Iranian culture has been the vessel that has carried our values forward when institutions have failed. It has always preserved our identity when freedom was denied and has paved the way to self-determination, keeping meaning and coherence alive in the darkest times. Thank you to the Iranian people for what you have given the world through culture, literature, art, and for your enduring belief in human dignity. May you always shine brightly as the true representatives of our culture. Farhang Foundation

Farhang Foundation mourns the passing of Nasser Taghvai one of the true masters of Iranian cinema and television. A visionary filmmaker, screenwriter, and storyteller, Taghvai’s work captured the soul of a nation through deeply human narratives defined by honesty, wit, and profound social insight. Among his many achievements, Taghvai’s adaptation of My Uncle Napoleon (Daie Jan Napoleon) for Iranian national television in 1976 stands as one of the most beloved and influential productions in the history of Iranian popular culture. With its unforgettable characters, sharp humor, and subtle critique of authority, the series left an indelible mark on generations of Iranians and remains a cultural touchstone to this day. Throughout his illustrious career, Taghvai also created a number of acclaimed films and television dramas that reflected his deep empathy for ordinary people and his unwavering belief in the power of storytelling. Ultimately his voice was silenced when he refused to compromise his principles or submit his art to censorship. Nasser Taghvai’s courageous integrity and artistic brilliance continue to inspire filmmakers and writers around the world. Farhang Foundation sends its heartfelt condolences to Mr. Taghvai’s family and friends, as we honor his extraordinary legacy, a testament to truth, freedom, and the enduring spirit of creativity that illuminated the path of Iranian cinema.
