Repro lie detector has come and gone again. Shifted joining date back this year to get more lambs in the system. Stoked with the result. Ewe lambs continue to be a little mixed bag but always a bonus. Over 50% increase in mature ewe conception to previous joining date.

Something a bit different this year, Morris hydraulic tines on a Horwood bar with parallelogram seeding setup.. wild but effective 🙂

@LauraHillsLamb @Bonidup @pbl1972 Andrew, I’m pretty new at the electric fence thing. Do you keep them hot during summer? Just wondering about the fire hazard potential?

@Bonidup @pbl1972 3 earth and 3 hot plain wire is fine for internal subdivision fences. Cost $1500/km. Or 7:90:30 plus electric out rigger or low tight barb.

I was planning to bond Maremmas to our goats and sheep and have a dog protecting each mob of 100-150 at lambing/ kidding. But I have given up on the idea of LGDs and merinos. And now I have too many dogs and they all like goats.

The power of carbon and naturally cycled nutrients. Forage brassica sown November 2021. This is where a hay bale was grazed 6 months prior to that. Question and challenge is, can we get close to replicating this on a broad scale?

@CKMonty @JamieNicolaou @tofar1 Seed rep told me it has 5% hard seed as I was concerned of its ability to become a weed. From what I’ve seen, you do have to be careful. It’s prolific!!

@JamieNicolaou @tofar1 The seed does not persist like wild radish. I got it growing the next year, but not the year after.

Think I might be able to harvest this 🤔 then again maybe I should ask. Has anyone ever tried to harvest tillage raddish?

S&W Territory Manager, Millie Moore, was out in the sun near Bordertown, SA, this morning. Subzero Hybrid Forage Brassica was sown in the paddock in spring last year for summer feed & has since been oversown with barley, vetch & balansa clover, producing this thriving pasture.

@blake_vince Blundstone lace up steel caps with zip on the side. Most comfortable shoe I have worn and tough! Sole also discards mud and stones quickly.

Looking for referrals/recommendations. My Blundstone boots have expired;) Time to go shopping. Have had a pair of Rossi as well. General everyday farm use. Mud, manure, fertilizer etc.

@LauraHillsLamb Thanks Andrew. Don’t know much about them, but do like the low maintenance aspect.

@farmerjohn1973 I think goats have an interesting place in with sheep. Especially with the price of goat, even old does and bucks, being higher than lamb prices. If you have any paddocks with a lot of woody weeds or browse goats are worth looking into.

@LauraHillsLamb I’ve found as it matures Andrew, ARG is rocket fuel for sheep. I would be pleased to see a paddock looking like that if it’s in a pasture phase.

Ryegrass and clover pasture. Some upto 60cm high. I'm nearly ready to give up on fighting ARG across the farm and plan to use it as pasture like we did in this paddock.

After a decade of shearing every 8-9 months and select rams and classing ewes for staple lengths we on the verge of going to 6 month shearing. Today we started shearing our May drop merino lamb. Ave over 60mm in 5-6 month. :)

@GreenpatchAg I like the idea. Looks like around 3m of drier ground either side of the bushes? Something to consider?

Came across this today. Saltbush alleys with crop in between in the riverland. Regenerative is not a new thing. These guys obviously did this quite a while ago. While the crop is suffering this year, there will be wind protection and sheep feed thanks to the perennials.
