@JDVance I suspect there’s a hell of a lot more Ukrainian 3 year olds that have experienced far worse pal

Today while walking my 3 year old daughter a group of “Slava Ukraini” protesters followed us around and shouted as my daughter grew increasingly anxious and scared. I decided to speak with the protesters in the hopes that I could trade a few minutes of conversation for them leaving my toddler alone. (Nearly all of them agreed.) It was a mostly respectful conversation, but if you’re chasing a 3-year-old as part of a political protest, you’re a shit person.

Many of you who know me well will be aware that 2024 has been hugely challenging for me and this little event had to be postponed. But I was now able graduate with a PhD in soil science. Thank you to all who have helped me on the journey you know who you are.

Third autumn of No Till drilling coming to a close and in a whole lot better place than last year. Partly due to the timing of the weather but also have learnt so much more about making the system work. Drilling on the ‘green’ has been a real eye opener

DD spring barley really motoring. Same field, 10 days apart, Tim and I trying to find the area of wild oats the agronomist spotted 7 days ago! Really should be using a scouting App!

@RBoldan Well Richard, we are on calcium and magnesium dominated soil, so P is quickly locked up.With the wide row spacing, the drill is covering 60% of the area and therefore concentrating the fertiliser in the row. I would have to increase the broadcast rate by nearly 50kg, £££/ha

Direct drilled spring wheat, on the left DAP down the spout on the right, a miss due to a roller problem. Field has struggled through quite a mat of straw, but the Benefit of DAP is clear to see now.

@CharltonJohn Agreed, a tissue test would be interesting. I’m inclined to think it’s the P. The first N split went on straight after drilling and the second two weeks after that, liquid, but this season we have had plenty of moisture to make that readily available.

@farr_farmer Do you think its the N or P that is making the difference? A tissue test would be interesting to see.

@essexpeasant I think that could be a sign that your heavier calcium ions have sunk and the surface is becoming more magnesium dominated. Or on the other hand it may not!

Is a carpet of moss on undisturbed wheat stubble a sign of good soil health or just a sign it’s been pissing it down for six months?

@tisha_bhat Have you visited a family farm in the U.S.? I have been to many livestock farms and can tell you firsthand how much they care for the animals. Many of them were large "factory" type of farms, according to some. I'd be happy to connect and join you.

Every decision to add #meat and #dairy to a meal contributes to the WORST form of cruelty on our planet. 💔 It supports rape and abuse. It separates mothers from their babies. And it sends BOTH of these innocent lives to slaughter. Please, choose compassion. Go #vegan 🙏🌱
