@taramcallister4 My advice would be to get something with a small case (so you can put them on / take them off mid run if necessary, and that is cheap enough to replace if you accidentally break/wash them. Then try to get the best sound quality possible. For me this normally means an older model

@charlesarthur @seanamulcahy I'm not trying to be a pedant, but there are many legal definitions of sex just as there are many scientific ones. Both can serve very general and very specific purposes.

@charlesarthur @seanamulcahy Cool. That doesn't go to the question of whether and how sex is mutable for the purposes of a debate about discrimination however.

@farsidevirtual @seanamulcahy It isn't fraught at all. We're confident sexual reproduction is a billion or so years old. We see it across multiple species. Humans aren't a special case in that regard.

@charlesarthur @seanamulcahy Precisely. But this makes the appeal to an underlying (sexual) reality incredibly fraught. As for sex being well in understood in humans, it really depends on the context and for what purposes.

@charlesarthur @seanamulcahy Sex is also a word scientists attach to people. Differently across time, and even within and between scientific disciplines. It's really not that different from what courts do. The idea that scientists can access reality without mediation is doing a lot of work for you here.

@seanamulcahy My point about "what the court says" was that it can’t make biology change: it can’t alter reality. It can attach words to people, but the underlying truth remains. The court can say Tickle is a woman. But the case happened because that assertion is a legal fiction, not reality.

Postdoc bonanza at @AdmsCentre! Lots of projects focused on diversity, inclusivity, and authenticity in AI. Strongly encourage feminist STS, anticolonial, critical race, and critical data studies folks to apply. I had the most rewarding 3 years of my career in the centre✨

First Horizon reached out to say that after trialling the program, it decided not to adopt it. It was "tested, delayed based on feedback and the[n] ultimately not deployed." Either workers hated it enough for them to kill it, or backlash from all this bad PR did. Outrage works!

Last week, I read about one of the bleakest uses for gen AI I've seen yet: First Horizon Bank is rolling out a system to detect when a call center worker was on the brink of "losing it"—and play them an AI-made montage of family photos set to their favorite song to calm them down
