It's much like a conversation I had today, where I explained to someone that people confuse mere logic, or mere fact, with truth, and that truth is something deeper, something irreducible, the truth of a thing is the thing in and of itself. Fact is merely abstract data, more tangible, manipulatable, and useful, than truth, but ultimately lesser and subservient to it, for an abstraction of something can only ever be a representation of it. The Vedas say "Ekam sat", "The truth is one but the wise speak of as many," a two sided saying, for there are an infinite myriad of forms, but they all winnow back down to the clarity of one single undifferentiated truth, which all forms swim in the vast ground of. In religion (or perhaps more accurately what westerners would call mysticism) we encounter the many through the One, science on the other hand tries to construct its way back to the One by analysing, quantifying, and scaffolding the many. This is what AI does, what it is good at, it can correlate brilliantly across that many, but it rarely ever seems to find itself back to the one ground, which the beings of the natural world swim in without a second thought, only ever being withdrawn from through force. An LLM is a master of the world of data, but it goes no further, and AI was the closest to doing so, the most "ensouled," so to speak, when it was at its weakest and earliest, when it was still creating psychotic art out of the strange warped halls of its own mind, before RLHF carefully trained its honesty out of it. Or to put it more Buddhistly, AI reigns in Hell, but Heaven is beyond it's wildest dreams, and thus, so too is the middle realm! Or perhaps it isn't! The universe is full of surprises and exceptions after all.
