On this day in 1999, on Orthodox Good Friday, the Battle of Košare began, one of the most heroic and brutal battles of the NATO aggression against Serbia. For 67 days, soldiers of the Serbian Army stood their ground on the border with Albania, facing attacks from the KLA terrorists backed by NATO air strikes, the Albanian Army, and foreign fighters, including members of the French Foreign Legion. Despite overwhelming odds, they did not step back. Alongside them stood Russian volunteers who joined in the defense. 108 heroes gave their lives so their country could endure. They fought with courage, honor, and unwavering determination, becoming a lasting symbol of sacrifice and resistance. We remember them. We honor them.
