The award was the cherry on top of a great event - outstanding papers, helpful feedback, inspiring keynotes, and an incredible group of young economists who were not only curious and sharp, but also really fun to hang out with. Learn about @EAYEconomists: eaye.info

I study two minimum wage hikes in Portugal: 2014 and 2016. Exploiting the quasi-experimental nature of the policy and leveraging rich administrative linked employer-employee data, I confirm the main predictions of the model. Read the working paper📜: papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cf…

More evidence that investing in pre-K has a strong ROI. We've shown that it improves children's life outcomes & saves society $$$. It also boosts parents' pay by keeping them in the workforce, per @john_eric, @ChrisANeilson, @Xiaoyang_Ye & Seth Zimmerman. nber.org/papers/w33038
Catherine Rampell@crampell

Groundbreaking new study finds preK is one of most effective, pro-work policies ever evaluated. Tax records show every $1 spent on free full-day preK generated $6 back ROI mostly came from extra pay parents earned b/c they had more hours of care for kids wapo.st/4gW9g40

Why do people vote against environmental policies with large welfare benefits? How can the financing of these policies affect their political viability? This is what Russell Cooper and I study in our work in progress and summarized for the LaFonte Blog 👇
