Deputy Executive Director at @hrw. Proud former ED @CivCenter. Human rights are for all human beings at all times. In free time, mostly @inter and some music.

Dear Italy, Your PM just defended Pope and lost an ally in Washington — the Commander in Grief, yet the most 'powerfool'man on earth. We'd like to apply for the vacancy. Our qualifications: 7,000 years of civilization, a shared love of poetry, architecture, and food that takes longer to prepare than Trump's attention span. The only thing Iran and Italy have ever fought over is who invented ice cream. Faloodeh came first. Gelato came louder. We've been in a 'cold' war over this for 2,000 years.

Hungary’s opposition Tisza party, led by Péter Magyar, has won the election, bringing an end to Viktor Orbán’s 16-year grip on power. The new government should act fast: end rule by decree, suspend the Sovereignty Protection Office, drop politically motivated cases, guarantee peaceful protest, restore judicial independence, and meet EU rule of law milestones. Rights can’t wait. bit.ly/47UOWgt

#Israel's mass displacement in #Lebanon follows the same strategy used in Gaza, the West Bank and Syria. Forced displacement of civilians, widespread destruction and prevention of return. In short, potential war crimes. My opinion for @AJEnglish: aje.news/gn8v60

Human Rights Watch is very concerned about reports of mass casualties from an airstrike on a drug rehabilitation center in Kabul. The authorities should promptly investigate the incident. Civilian facilities must never be targeted or put at risk of disproportionate attack.

I’m absolutely thrilled to celebrate the appointment of my dear friend and colleague @nadiadaar as the new Executive Director of @amnestyusa. Nadia is one of the most inspiring human rights defenders I’ve ever worked with. Her integrity, courage, strategic clarity, and unwavering commitment to justice have shaped so many of our struggles in the USA. As the USA stands on the brink of a profound human rights crisis, with rising authoritarian practices, shrinking civic space, and escalating attacks on rights, there is no one better prepared to lead our movement in the country. Her voice, experience, and vision will be essential to confront this dangerous rollback and help mobilize people across the country to reclaim their rights. Our deep gratitude also goes to my dearest friend @dpaulobrien for his leadership and camaraderie over so many years. Paul has been an anchor for our movement in the USA, steady, brave, wise, and relentlessly committed to dignity and justice. He will be profoundly missed. His extraordinary legacy will continue to light our path and guide our conscience, and this smooth, thoughtful leadership transition is itself a testament to the depth and power of his leadership. He has shown the way, and we are all better for it 💛✊🏽

During the Rapid Support Forces' final onslaught on El Fasher, #Sudan the forces singled out people with disabilities for abuse & killings amidst broader atrocities. New @hrw statement 🧵⬇️hrw.org/news/2026/02/2…

New from @hrw: #Israel's new NGO registration requirements include sending gov staff lists. Gov has broad power to deny registration of anyone deemed to be a state security risk. Aid distribution should not be political. hrw.org/news/2026/02/2…

Also calls on reforming -not dismantling- global institutions, namely the UN, an defense of unilateral action when US perceives these institutions fail #MSC2026

Call to collaborate on economy, AI and more. But also migration once again painted as a risk to the West’s survival
