Dear supporters, We truly appreciate your belief in this project, which has been crucial to bring it to this point where we can finally bring it steadily to a wider audience. CLASSIFICATION IN AUSTRALIA A few days ago the film received a rating by the Australian Classifications Board. They gave it a rating of ‘M’ for mature audience - for “mature themes and coarse language”. We are very pleased with the result. I was actually wondering if it would get an ‘R’ rating, due to the shocking Collateral Murder footage, in which case it would make it a little harder to attract a wide audience to see the film. So getting a milder rating is a big plus for encouraging more people to see it. Most of the coarse language is in the Collateral Murder chapter, with the U.S. soldiers callous banter, however two of the expletives are actually from Julian Assange. The first one is at the end of the chapter called ‘Genesis” - which delves into the original inspiration for the creation of Wikileaks. It concludes with the line: “The single greatest contributor to our expanding horizons is you. You telling your friends what's up, what you saw, what you believe, and who's full of it. You form part of the largest bullshit detecting machine the world has ever seen”. The second expletive is when Julian is arriving to the Frontline Club in London, to do the press conference for the Afghan War Logs. He walks to the top of the stairs and into a room which is packed with cameras and journalists. He exclaims “Holy F*ck!” We wanted to have these parts in the film because the opponents of truth who persecute Julian have worked so hard to dehumanise Julian, to keep him hidden away from the world, and to paint him as a “traitor” and a “criminal”. A good portion of the film is devoted to showing that Julian Assange is a human being. Not just that but a very kind, compassionate, talented, wise and visionary human being! AUSTRALIAN CINEMA RELEASE We have commenced pitching the film to cinemas in Australia, and hope to have it showing in selected cinemas in late Dec/early january. We are very excited to bring it to as many people as possible in this ideal setting as soon as possible! UPCOMING FESTIVALS * Festival de Cine y Derechos Humanos de Barcelona - Barcelona, Spain - Dec 5 * Human Rights Film Festival - Madrid, Spain - Dec 12 As we progress day by day towards the finish line of this challenging project, the support on gofundme remains crucial to meet the day-to-day costs of finishing the film and getting it out into the world. Julian Assange’s situation remains precarious. The date for the application for the final appeal hasn’t yet been set, but is very overdue. It’s common for them to give at least five business days notice of the hearing date. It will be an oral hearing with an immediate decision. President Biden still has a chance to make a positive move to protect the first amendment and cease the pursuit of this journalist and truth-teller. Albanese seems to have his fingers in his ears to the will of the Australian people. More pressure and awareness building is needed to make it an election issue in both of these countries. The aim of this film is to inform people all over the world of this issue, raise awareness and add significant weight to the campaign for Assange’s freedom, by helping people understand the real story, the grave and urgent wider issues at stake, and motivating them into action! Thanks for getting behind this project and helping us educate many people on this important issue.
