@fem_emp @GoDzanjalimodzi @princestevens1 Regressive? Lol And the govt ensures that welfare by taxing heavily the productive population to feed the unproductive. Here, they taxi working class to provide medicine for my grannies in the village. So simple. The taxed group doesn't grow much in that case.

Each additional year of schooling increases national productivity. Data is there. Healthier populations contribute more to GDP. Data is there. Social safety nets prevent crime, instability, and long-term dependency, data is there. Is this arrogance from Economists? Nditukwane?
Katswiri👑@katswiri123

Welfare economics (call it socialism and whatsoever) simply takes from the productive to feed the unproductive. When we celebrated free education, we should have prepared ourselves for the taxation that comes with it. There is no such thing as free lunch - cost is simply pushed

@GoDzanjalimodzi @Katswiri123 @princestevens1 The framing of welfare as wasteful here is just overall regressive, and justifies the individualistic and capitalist nature of our economy. The Govt, the State in its original purpose and formation is precisely to ensure welfare of the people is protected, by all means.

@Katswiri123 @princestevens1 I almost agree with both of you, but, Katswiri, my problem with your inital critique is that it presents education *alone* as the $ burden, but that ignores the context of other fiscal pressures. A more productive conversaion needs to question other inefficiencies -

We are heartbroken by the passing of Snr. Chief Kachindamoto, a genuine hero who ended child marriages and advocated for girls' education. Her bravery transformed laws and impacted lives. May her legacy motivate us to continue striving for gender equality. Rest in power.

The system is disfavoring men? What system? My brother Men are the most favoured people in the system. The system was made by men, for men. Men have a thousand year lead on women, across all societies on earth.

@AudioRockSwisha Who's gonna speak up if the system keeps on disfavoring men??

Seeing a new therapist soon. It’s going to be interesting to see how it goes when I’m not in crisis. I feel like that’s when the real work begins, just grateful that I’m not in crisis anymore.

An excellent conversation this was!
Akina Mama wa Afrika@amwaafrika

Can radical alternatives to austerity emerge from within the systems that uphold them? Join us as feminist thought leaders, activists, and advocates as we critically examine the Civil Society Policy Forum's historical role, its impact on IMF and World Bank policies, and the opportunities (or lack thereof) it provides for reversing the deeply entrenched austerity measures that continue to harm African women and other structurally marginalized groups. Steerers of the conversation: @FaithLumonya – Economic Justice & Climate Action Lead, AMwA Bhumika Muchhala – Senior Advisor, @3rdworldnetwork | Lecturer, The New School @Emilia_Equidad Reyes – Program Director, Policies & Budgets for @equidadmx Shereen Talaat – Director, @MenaFem Movement for Economic, Development & Ecological Justice Mworozi Kanywamate – Economic Justice & Climate Action Programme Associate, AMwA 🗓 Date: Thursday, 17th April 2025 ⏰ Time: 16:00 - 18:00 (EAT) 🔗Zoom link on which to register; bit.ly/3Ytav2L #FeministEconomicJustice #GlobalSouthVoices #IMF #WorldBank #AntiAusterity #DisruptCSPF

Who tailors your clothes? Looking for a Lilongwe based tailor. Who understands that bigger bodies should not be forced to squeeze into undersized chitenje clothes 😬
