In Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga, the Toad NPCs have originally been envisioned to be highly nonstandard with odd cap shapes and unique colors. In each successive iteration of the game, their designs have been made to look more "normal" until the logical conclusion.

People forget that reviewers HATED any non-popular JRPGs back in the day. Game reviewers at the time were Xenophobic as hell.
Outside of your latest FF and maybe DQ, anything with an anime aesthetic was ridiculed. It was brutal.

It does lose some other graphical effects though

@XRTerra_ @irissocewl I mean there is the Saturn version which lets you use the superior Saturn pad. Saturn version is the superior version of the game I believe as well.

Magma Dragoon's stage is pretty fun but took the longest to get a truly good run of out of every X4 stage so far - MAINLY because Sony can't make a good controller to save their life... hopefully the Steam Controller is good.

Tbh this is a pretty artistic and subversive ending for a cartoon like this.
You expect it to be a grandiose finale, with a happy musical number, and a big fight where the bad guys are defeated once and for all, but no. Everyone just abandons DK, leaving him alone and depressed.
