Huge card!! #UFC328 Fight Thoughts: 1⃣Chimaev/Strickland - Mostly worry about Chimaev's cardio. If at any point he's tired and can't take Strickland down, I'd expect Strickland to win. Hard to be sure if/when that happens. Ultimately think Chimaev has enough early success and finishing equity to get his hand raised. 2⃣Van/Taira - I've been above market on Van for his last several fights and will be again. Taira obviously is a good grappler and back taker, and should threaten Van to some degree early. Would be very concerned if he can't win in RD 1/2 because Van is an elite pace striker and tough to see Taira keeping up. 3⃣Volkov/WCA - Expecting competitive, extended striking affair. Volkov is super consistent and very live to win a decision. Think WCA more likely to win by TKO, but this is a huge step up compared to his recent opponents. 4⃣Brady/Buckley - Weird because both fighters just lost to opponents who share similarities to opponents this week. Buckley is an overrated defensive wrestler. Brady may an overrated offensive one given the physicality gap between him and the top tier. Pretty binary here. Find it interesting that Buckley never wins in round 1 so think Brady will get his game going a bit, but not super confident either way. 5⃣Green/Stephens - Green should have more volume and likely to win decision or even by TKO if Stephens doesn't hurt him. Funny that people don't care about Green's chin issues now when that's all we could talk about last time. Have to pick Green but some chance he gets hurt. 6⃣Gautier/Diaz - Gautier probably KOs him quickly. I actually think Diaz has a chance via extended striking if he survives, similar to Pulyaev. His durability is pretty weak though. 7⃣Alvarez/Amosov - Amosov gonna take him down and hold him down. Obv path to decision but pretty skeptical Amosov can beat him up and/or finish him, which makes Alvarez pretty live throughout. Wouldn't be shocked if he hurt or subbed Amosov at some point in traditional Alvarez fashion. 8⃣Dawson/Rebecki - Rebecki might KO Dawson early, but otherwise assume Dawson can grind him out, probably to a stoppage. Haven't loved some of Rebecki's defensive grappling but those exchanges usually come after he's hurt his opponent badly, which Dawson won't survive. Seems binary. 9⃣Miller/Gordon - Miller early finish or he'll get outworked over 15 minutes. Gordon coming off a KO makes me nervous for sure but still lean toward him. 🔟Kopylov/Tulio - I like Kopylov as a range kickboxer and think he can win that way. Some KO equity. Tulio very live on optics, power, and grappling. Don't feel super confident. 1⃣1⃣Sabatini/Gomis - Think Sab should be able to outwrestle Gomis. I've really not liked some of Gomis defensive wrestling exchanges, and he gives up bad positions. Honestly think Gomis live for a KO if Sab can't get his grappling working. 1⃣2⃣Susurkaev/Santos - Massive red flags for me on this one. Santos is very durable historically and produces offense. Susurkaev still kind of a memey guy. He's not projected to win in round 1, and I don't really trust him to win a decision easily. Lots of different possibilties here including a quick finish from Sus, but think Santos is very live if he can survive initial bursts. 1⃣3⃣Carpetner/Ochoa - Carpenter well-rounded and decent grappler. Probably can land a couple TDs and maybe win rounds. Think Ochoa better on the feet for optics and damage, mild KO equity.
