I really respect a lot of the authors of this piece and colleagues who have been tweeting out congratulations to those listed at "top-producers". BUT, I've got to disagree with the whole premise of the article. I think it's misguided and actively harmful for the field...

It’s hard seeing people getting into PhD programs when this year it didn’t happen for me again. I am happy for those that got in, but that doesn’t make it suck any less. Any support would be welcome. If you need me I’ll be cuddling my roommate’s cat.

After years of delays, @NSF piloted LGBTQ questions for the US STEM census. The results? People have no problem with them. Yet @NSF still won't add them. @NSF is Congressionally mandated to address US STEM disparities. LGBTQ disparities are no exception. science.org/doi/10.1126/sc…

I just did a presentation on my project and all it’s brand new results and interpretations (literally some were done yesterday) in lab meeting and it wasn’t perfect but it went PRETTY DAMN WELL 🎉

THIS 🔥🔥🔥 when I first applied to grad school for clinical psych, I used some words in this table in my statement, and the feedback I received was that they weren’t acceptable/understandable to the field at large. That’s a PROBLEM 👏🏼. You can’t change what you can’t name.
