Let me say this bluntly because sometimes the truth must be uncomfortable, when a country of over 30 million people begins celebrating the donation of an air ambulance by a private businessman, that is not a sign of generosity, it is a sign of institutional failure. A whole sovereign state with a national budget, ministries, and a health system should not depend on the goodwill of one wealthy individual to provide something as basic as an air ambulance.
That narrative may sound noble on the surface, but in reality it is dangerous populism designed to distract weak minds from asking harder questions about power, wealth, and transparency. Now let me be clear.
When a private individual becomes the one providing such a national service, it creates a dangerous narrative, that the state is weak but wealthy individuals close to power will save it. That mindset slowly normalizes the idea that national infrastructure depends on elite benevolence rather than functioning public systems.
And this is where the transparency issue becomes even more important. When the brother of the sitting president is simultaneously, acquiring major mining assets, securing large financing arrangements, expanding industrial businesses and presenting high profile gifts to the nation, the public is absolutely justified in asking questions. Not because generosity is wrong. But because political proximity changes the stakes.
People often try to shut down scrutiny with a simplistic argument, He is not a politician. But that logic is dangerously naive. In governance, power does not only sit in elected offices. Power also sits in proximity, in family networks, business influence, and access to decision makers. When those lines are not transparent, the risk is not just corruption. The risk is institutional capture, where private wealth and state power quietly begin to overlap.
Now let’s address another narrative that keeps circulating, the suggestion that the new jet was ordered around 2023 or 2024, as if that alone somehow settles the discussion. In reality, that explanation raises even more important questions.
Aircraft like the Bombardier Global 6500 are not purchased like cars at a dealership where someone walks in, pays, and drives away the same day. These aircraft typically involve multi year production schedules, staged payments, financing structures, and complex ownership arrangements.
Even if the aircraft was ordered in 2024, that does not mean the aircraft was fully paid for at the time of order. In the private aviation industry, the standard structure is very different.
Typically, An initial deposit secures the production slot. Progress payments are made as the aircraft moves through different stages of manufacturing. The largest payment is usually made closer to delivery. Which means that financing, loans, guarantees, and payment structures are often active right up until delivery.
This is precisely why transparency matters. Because if a businessman who also happens to be the brother of the sitting president is simultaneously acquiring major mining assets, securing large project financing, expanding industrial operations and taking delivery of a $60+ million aircraft, then naturally the public will ask reasonable questions about how those financial structures intersect.
These questions are not accusations. They are standard governance questions in any mature democracy. Because transparency is not hostility!!!!!! It is the only safeguard that prevents legitimate business success from becoming indistinguishable from political privilege. And Ghana simply cannot afford blurred lines.
We are a country that has gone to the International Monetary Fund multiple times because of weak fiscal management. We struggle with public infrastructure, youth unemployment, and fragile institutions.
In such an environment, opacity around the financial dealings of individuals closest to presidential power is not a minor concern, it is a structural risk!!!!!

For your own sanity, stop consuming the narratives pushed by mainstream media like BBC, CNN, Fox News, and France 24. Step away and invest time in reading thoughtful books, and you’ll begin to see the world through a sharper, more independent lens especially as an African.
You’ll quickly realize how these outlets frame global issues to reflect Western interests, often sidelining Africa’s true voice and perspective.

I stood alongside my brother, Chief Mourner President Mahama, @JDMahama, government officials, and the heartbroken families as we took a moment to remember the eight precious lives lost in the tragic helicopter crash.
In this time of profound sorrow for the people of Ghana, I hope that their souls find peace and that those left behind can find the strength to cope during this incredibly challenging time.
