I worked in Punjab as a journalist during the peak of militancy. And that is exactly my concern with Satluj: not what it shows, but what it leaves out. It tells only half the truth; the other half is left unsaid, deliberately, and with a purpose. The film decontextualizes Jaswant Singh Khalra and the human rights debate from the Pakistan-backed, brutal Khalistani insurgency. This omission is neither an innocent creative choice nor an inadvertent one. And, in my view, the intent behind such a selective portrayal should matter to every Indian.

Same can be said for those serving in armed forces & other govt agencies. They too can misuse the symbols. Sikhi is all abt sovereignty, yet we hve so many who call themselves Sikhs yet hve slave mentality. Sikhi is abt speaking truth, yet we hve so many peddling lies to protect the system? They too only hve the symbols, and yet no spirit tht makes one a Sikh.

Wearing religious symbols doesn’t allow any one to become a Sikh. Even an impostor who wants to destroy Sikhism can do it. You have to practice values taught by Gurus to be a Sikh. Symbols can be misused and are being misused by enemies of Sikhs.

I did say, I appreciate efforts of the entire cast of the movie.
