@AlexStandiford They are hoping that their marketplace effect (bringing in customers) is enough to keep people locked in. And isn't this a Shutterstock move if I've ever seen one? lol

Envato's move to a 50% commission is...perplexing. Feels like they're biting the hand that feeds them at best, extortion at worst. What's funny is they decided to do this as AI is literally making it easier than ever to get off of these platforms. It's like they WANT You to leave. Seriously though, own your platform, y'all. WooCommerce or Easy Digital Downloads have been around for a coon's age, and solve your problem without paying an arbitrary tax to whatever Envato's investors decide you need to pay. That distribution ain't worth that tax. You could literally run an affiliate program with @sirenaffiliates with a 25% commission rate (which I think is already really high for reliably converting software!) and capture a lot of that distribution, while actually taking ownership of those relationships and spreading out your dependency to your entire network.

@photomatt That could be really interesting. Is it something you could execute through your connections so you can minimize your direct time investment and still see it through to a meaningful outcome? How many projects/companies do you have and manage already?

I have never in my life wanted to build a hardware device, but I think I have an idea for a hardware device, and I can't stop thinking about it.

@austinginder The issue will always be that it'll be hard to be okay with Opus 4.6 level AI when something more than 30% better is out. And I'm hoping that AI efficiency will improve during the next year because hardware costs aren't going to come down enough to make your question viable.

@gridpane @ritakozlov Not dumb, I was curious if they had an interface for using WordPress plugins and themes while keeping them sandboxed. It can import content though.

@findpurpose @ritakozlov Yeah, kinda a dumb question on my part. Not even WordPress is a drop in replacement for WordPress when you introduce the plugins Gremlins.

@ritakozlov Is it drop in compatible? Would love to talk to you about this. We host hundreds of thousands of WordPress websites and a whole bunch of them don't actually need a heavy ass LEMP stack and all the heft.
