Hundreds of @stpetescifest attendees experienced tours on R/V Hogarth and R/V Weatherbird II. Students and St. Pete families learned about FIO and its history, its facilities and services, and its past missions and upcoming expeditions. Stay tuned for more events featuring FIO!

FIO joined HCPS science teachers for a prof. development workshop on AI resources to explore real-world marine science data. Led by Dr. Aydeniz of the Univ of Tennessee, the workshop highlighted how AI-supported tools engage students in marine issues and into the ocean workforce.

The Gulf Scholars Program is open to new and current St. Pete students of all majors with at least two years left to go on their degree plan. Submit applications by March 15th. Check out their website and reach out to Dr. Wilkins (cjwilkins@usf.edu) for additional questions.

FIO is excited to be an exhibitor at the 2026 St. Petersburg Science Festival - a community celebration of science. The festival will feature lots of fun content for the whole family to enjoy, including free research vessel tours! Visit the FIO booth to sign up!

Let's talk: CTD Carousels! A CTD Carousel, or CTD-rosette, is the primary tool for characterizing physical and chemical properties of sea water. The letters in the acronym 'CTD' stand for Conductivity, Temperature, and Depth, all of which are parameters measured in real time.
