Mariah has never a day in her life released anything that has out sold Whitney Houston bodyguard album if you go to google right now and type in the best selling female album IN HERSTORY only Whitney Houston will pop up. Mariah is not on the same level as Michael Jackson and Whitney Houston and that’s OK.

That's significant because every year, All I Want For Christmas Is You hits #1 in Japan on Apple Music & other streaming subscriptions.

According to Oricon public data, the album #1's by Mariah Carey has sold 3,250,000 copies in Japan (second-largest music market in the world).
But the RIAJ lists #1's sales at only 3,000,000. Sony has to pay for the audit.

Mariah Carey is an interesting one. She isn't fully a legacy act because she's still making new music and working w other artists. I wish I could find a YT video where it analyzed Mariah Carey's career and where she stands in current music industry.
