How much money do you think is wasted gathering irrelevant feedback that just doesn't matter? I bought a pair of shoes online yesterday. Today I get an email asking me to "rate the experience"... I don't feel like I had an experience. I just picked my size and paid. A perfectly adequate, if not banal checkout experience, completely inline with what you'd expect. I can't say I'm very satisfied or very unsatisfied. Those poles are actually too extreme. So if I go in the middle it'll equate to something was wrong. But it wasn't. Why? Why send this? What is there to actually learn? What's really going to change here? And what exactly are they measuring? Anyway, I'm over-analyzing it, but still.

@paulg This is so true. And I think it's true of everything we use generative AI for. Graphic design was buying and tweaking templates. Writing was rewriting something someone else said in different words. We already chose slop.

Before vibe coding became a thing, programming was already evolving in that direction. It already increasingly consisted of installing and configuring stuff other people wrote, without reading the source.

Today the capital of Ukraine Kyiv marks its holiday. Our beautiful city is more than 1500 y.o. 1,000 years ago, its population was almost 100,000, it was one of the 5 largest cities in Europe and looked like this. In the place where moscow is now, there was still a swamp then.

@rorysutherland You made the mistake of using a simile to support your argument. Now people with no counter argument can just point out the two things aren't the same (like all similes) and continue thinking their disruptions are justified.

This is just me, but when did we conflate free speech with the right to disrupt things? I don't like football. This means I am free to tweet this. It doesn't give me the right to run onto the pitch with a placard saying "Not my sport."
