Huge thanks to the @NHSEngland @UniKent team for standing up our vaccination centre in Canterbury so quickly and with such professionalism in challenging circumstances. They deserve real credit. Over 600 students through yesterday afternoon and more coming through now.

In Canterbury I’ve announced an expansion of antibiotics and vaccinations to help contain the outbreak of Meningitis B. Anyone who attended Club Chemistry from 5th March is eligible and those who’ve previously had the antibiotics can get the vaccine.

Many constituents both in Ilford South and across the country are understandably worried about the meningitis outbreak. To protect yourself as best as you can, know the symptoms: • A rash that does not fade when pressed with a glass • A sudden onset of high fever • A severe and worsening headache • A stiff neck • Vomiting and diarrhoea • Joint and muscle pain • A dislike of bright lights • Very cold hands and feet • Seizures • Confusion and delirium • Extreme sleepiness or difficulty waking • Drowsiness

I know there is a lot of concern about the meningitis outbreak in Kent. We've already given out 2,500 doses of antibiotics. Our vaccine programme starts today for students in Canterbury Campus Halls of Residence. If you have symptoms, call NHS 111 or in an emergency dial 999.

All this anger over our ambition to make every school good or outstanding in our borough. On May 7th we can protect our beautiful borough from this madness.

At Budget Council this evening @PrabjitKG highlighted how important it is to protect the most vulnerable, especially those in Adult Social Care. @redbridgelabour will ALWAYS do the right thing for our residents.
