Yesterday, Ian Happ hit an absolute tank for a home run. 109 off the bat. 32 deg LA. .. except, he didn't. Thanks to our friends at @WeatherApplied, we know that the wind cost him *113 feet* of distance -- which is now the largest stop in the data. --> mlb.com/news/how-ian-h…

Major League Baseball is aired in the morning for Japan. So technically they eat breakfast with it being on television. Here’s their #openingday commercial. No hyperbole, when I say this, it might be greater than any US MLB commercial I’ve seen. Well done and worth the watch for any baseball fan.

"WOW okay so the most amazing thing just happened to me and I can’t help but share it with the world. American Airlines instituted a new policy where you have to pay to take a carry-on onto the plane. Which is ridiculous but off topic. I consolidate my bags into one and they measure it and say it’s just a little too big. They proceed to charge me $50, except they only take credit card, no cash. Since I just got back from Europe all my cards are being declined as Chase doesn’t know I’m back. They tell me that I’m going to have to miss the flight and head back to the ticket counter to pay down there. I’m pleading, devastated after a long day of travel. Then, this man walks up and says, “How much is it?” They tell him $50 and he says “I got it.” I’m astonished and tell him it’s fine not to worry and he hands the lady his card as the American Airlines employees stand in silence shocked by this man’s generosity. They swipe the card and he tells me to have a great flight and hop on board. I’m crying as I write this and as I board the flight. This man was an angel. I stop him as he’s sitting in first class and try to give him my money but he just shook me off and told me to pay it forward. My heart is so happy. There are good people in this world. Be that person for someone because I know after this I sure will be." 💕 Update: It was NFL player, Jermaine Gresham.

"Ted Williams, one of the greatest natural hitters of all time was retired and giving some tips to the rookies at the Red Sox spring training camp. One of them asked how to tell apart a curveball from a slider when they were coming in. Williams replied: "Oh! That's easy. If it's a curveball, the red spot you see on the ball will be rotating clockwise - if it's a changeup, counterclockwise." They all nodded and politely thanked Ted Williams for the tip. One of the rookies turned to the others and said whispered, "Now who the f*** can even see a red spot on a ball coming at you at 95 mph?" Then Ted Williams went on to claim that he could tell exactly where on the seams he hit a baseball. No one believed him. Ted Williams was long retired at this point. Williams took a bat and covered the barrel with pine tar and they started throwing him some pitches. Ted would hit and say "across the seams" or "between the seams" or "across one seam" or whatever. They retrieved all the balls and found out Ted Williams was right, EVERY single time.

The USA hockey game today reminded me of the USWNT’s game against Colombia in the gold cup where their players played mind games and tried to get under their skin instead of playing soccer. The Italians were doing the same thing today, and again it didn’t work

Never in the history of basketball has the step through ever been illegal. Kareem’s skyhook, Hakeem’s dream shake, and Dirk’s fadeaway all use the exact same footwork. For whatever reason, when a player uses it to get closer to the basket, people start crying about a travel.

Hurts the NHL, obviously. Even worse for women's hockey -- try finding any highlights of those insane US-Canada games, great Olympians of the past ... almost nothing.
Scott McLaughlin@smclaughlin9

If highlights are gonna be exclusive, then post them all on Olympics/NBC channels. But if those accounts aren't going to consistently post them, then let someone else. Making it impossible to find simple goal highlights is just stupid.

@camperry21 @GuruTwoey @NBA__Courtside Right, D/3 players if anything wld be the remedy to what Arenas is saying. Sure, you don't have to chase em around like some cats-but if you snooze on em, they can leak to spots and catch & shoot to do damage. Then if they have a playmaker on board, there goes that theory...

Gilbert Arenas says that defensive players that don’t score are more liability then offensive players that don’t play defense “Here’s why. If the guy guarding me. Say Dyson Daniels, he’s guarding me, picking me up full court. I average 30, right? I have the green light to shoot, meaning I’m going to work him to death with everything, right? Let’s say he gets the best of me and I score 22. Remember, I’m going hard on offense. I’m catching my breath on defense. YOU KNOW WHY? CUZ HE CAN’T SHOOT. HE CAN’T PLAY OFFENSE, WHICH MEANS I DON’T HAVE TO PLAY DEFENSE WHATSOEVER” (Via @NoChillGilZero)

Gilbert Arenas says the dunk contest lost its luster in the 90s, early 2000s “Like I know everybody like Stephen A. Smith and them want to blame LeBron for not participating. But they’re not going to to hold anybody else accountable for not participating and not going back to the dunk contest. You won it defend your title. Right. You know Kobe won one in 96, he never went back, right? Vince Carter won his, he never went back. So you have these guys where Vince Carter, Tracy McGrady, they could have been in the dunk contest three, four years, which then would have enticed the LeBron James when he was coming in the Dwayne Wade to enter the dunk contest” (Via @NoChillGilZero)
