Idk dude I’ve already talked about it multiple times but there is something seriously sick and twisted about purposely making black woman’s relationship boring and then shaving bc another sacrifice herself after giving up big parts of her character

Hey friends, long time no see.
First and foremost: thank you so much for your condolences. I’m blown away by how many of you reached out. Forgive me for not replying to everyone, but please know that I read every single comment. I’m touched by how many of you shared stories about losing your mothers and loved ones to cancer or other terminal illnesses as well. You have my deepest condolences. I’d like to share some reflections on what it’s been like losing my mom to cancer since she passed away just over a month ago.
As you can imagine, life’s been difficult, but it’s been difficult in ways I didn’t expect. For example, I haven’t been sleeping very well. I’ll wake up in the middle of the night and sometimes not be able to go back. Only this week have I been able to sleep uninterrupted through the night, which is a positive sign. I believe my sleep will normalize sometime soon, but I’ve accepted that there is more grieving still to come. For example, tomorrow is my birthday, and it’s going to my first one without her. Then we have Mother’s Day next month, and then her birthday was a couple weeks after that. See what I mean? There’s going to be at least a year of these “anniversaries” before I don’t feel her loss so acutely.
During my lowest moments, I considered walking away from “JCKIX” entirely. I didn’t pick up the pencil for three weeks after mom died. I tried to draw once, but after 10 minutes in I realized I couldn’t focus. Losing my mom has changed my perspective on what is and is not important, and for a while art was not important to me at all. What brought me back is realizing how sad my mom would be if she learned that I quit “JCKIX” just because she died. My mom was super supportive of my art; not only did she pay for my art lessons, but she actually liked my drawings. Yes, really! She even knew who Adelaide is (she’s my OC).
I’m happy to say that I’m working on new artwork again, and I hope to share something next week. Actually, if I’m being honest, knowing how to “come back” is a task unto itself. I’m taking baby steps reconnecting with people because the amount of people who have reached out online and IRL has been overwhelming. One of the ironies of losing a parent is that everyone wants to talk to you during a time when you don’t feel like talking to anyone. Thankfully just about everyone understands why that is. To my Discord mutuals, thank you guys so much for reaching out. I’ll get back to each you as soon as I can.

My mom died this morning. In January 2025, she was diagnosed with Stage 4 lung cancer, which was startling because she never smoked and took great care of herself. Originally she had maybe 3 months to live, but thanks to the miracle of modern medicine, my mom extended her life for another 14 months. We made the most of that extra time with lots of wonderful conversations and laughter. We even had one of the best Christmases we’ve ever had as a family last year. Alas, in late February her cancer journey took a terrible turn for the worst. We knew this day would come, but no one thought so soon or so suddenly after our relatively “normal” Christmas. Think of cancer treatment like Tien from Dragon Ball. Do you remember when he held down Second Form Cell with his Tri-Beam attack? That’s exactly how treating Stage 4 cancer works; there’s no way Tien could have defeated Cell, but he was able to hold him down long enough for the androids to escape. In our case, "the androids escaping" meant buying Mom more time of good quality life. I'm forever grateful for the extra time we had with her. Alas, Tien’s strength inevitably failed him, and so did her treatments as her cancer grew more aggressive. Cancer exists for no purpose other than to take others away from us. Even though her life was cut short, my mom went out on her terms: she died peacefully at home in her own bed. I’ll be away for a while. Thank you.
