@johnredwood IMF forecasts are nonsense we should ignore them whichever Government is in power

Labour used to see IMF forecasts as reality. Today they cannot explain why the IMF has downgraded their UK forecast more than other advanced countries. They still do not admit their high taxes, bad energy policy and excessive regulation do damage.

#NeverHappened Reform are desperately trying to negate for the fact that they are largely made up by former failed Cabinet Ministers at their frontbench. So are trying to win back former Reformers who switched to Reform with accusations like this and accusations of bullying.

“At least six different public bodies failed to accept responsibility for managing the risk,” including the police, NHS and social services. That’s the modern British state for you: incompetent, anti-racist, cowardly and obsessed with process over outcome. thetimes.com/uk/crime/artic…

@KEdge23 It's strange then that she defected to reform just as Kemi was adopting all the the policies she was apparently arguing for

Suella Braverman lying through her teeth. If all this were true, why did she stand for the Conservatives in July 2024? That is after all this. It’s clear she either lied to her constituents then, or she’s lying now. Either way, you can’t trust her or Reform to tell the truth.

This is exactly what we need and I will happily give evidence. When I arrived at the Home Office in September 2022, the number of work and study visas issued the previous year had already exceeded 1,000,000. The Boriswave was flooding the country. This was a catastrophe. I went into government with a clear plan to cut net migration. If we moved quickly, we could bring the numbers down before a General Election, I hoped. Yet I was blocked repeatedly by Conservative Prime Ministers and Conservative Cabinet Members. No Minister can act unilaterally- you need Cabinet approval and the Tory Wets kept resisting. I kept working to persuade, to push, to lobby, to get changes. I managed to secure the first set of changes (on student dependents) in May 2023. These were the first ever changes to begin the reversal of the Boriswave. Not nearly enough, but a start. I did not give up. I continued to lobby for the fuller set of changes (salary threshold increase, lower caps etc) but was constantly blocked by the Chancellor, Health, Education, Business and Agriculture departments, and the PM. It became one of my big disputes with the PM, and one reason he dismissed me. The PM eventually introduced some of my proposed changes after I left office. But it was all too little, too late. I will stand by my record any day.

@lukerobertblack When you say 'Tory', are you referring to the political party that didn't implement a single right-wing policy in fourteen years of government?

If the predictions are borne out and Viktor Orbán is out, can we agree that he was not a dictator? Dictators do not step aside after free elections.

Aside from your weird obsession with the Conservative Party (reminder it’s Labour that’s in govt), let’s look at the actual facts: According to the @spectator Poll of Polls, you held a 13.6% lead over the Conservatives in Sept 25, today it’s 7.9%. According to the very poll you refer to, your lead is 7% (from 10%) and you’re predicted to get 57 fewer seats - compared to the same poll in January. And Kemi is now officially the most popular political leader in the country, inc Nigel Farage. And, of course, we probably have 3 years before any national poll actually matters. We have much work to do to rebuild trust, but we are 💯 up for the fight. All the actual facts here moreincommon.org.uk/latest-insight…

How many Conservative MPs have defected to the Lib Dems since the 2024 election? 0. How many have defected to Reform? 8. (Including Kruger, Jenrick, and Braverman). Turns out the "Real Conservatives" were the "Wets" all along.

Let's all laugh at Reform. Something to amuse us over the weekend: Umesh Kumar tried to stand as a Reform UK candidate in Heston West and as a Liberal Democrat candidate in Heston East in the May 2026 Hounslow Borough election. He was nominated as a Lib Dem candidate in Heston East AND also as Reform UK candidate in the neighbouring Heston West. Mandy Skinner, the LB Hounslow Chief Executive, who is the Returning Officer for the borough council elections, ruled that he was validly nominated to run in two wards. But as candidates are not allowed to run in two wards he was required to withdraw from one. As Mr Kumar has failed to withdraw from one of the two wards, the Returning Officer ruled that he has withdrawn from both wards. So yeah. Both Reform and The Lib Dems are -1 on their list of candidates for the upcoming May Council Elections. 😂 hounslow.gov.uk/downloads/file… hounslow.gov.uk/downloads/file…

✍️ from @KemiBadenoch: “We’re working towards the return of responsibility and a government that backs its people instead of managing their decline. Once people get a taste for that, once they remember what it feels like to live in a country that trusts them, they will not want to go back.”
